2025 HOMES
CREATE ATELIER
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
4009 Hildring is the future of family living. It bridges technology, art, and a very thoughtful design. This home is a space where the inside and outside are one. The space is special for sure, but the stories behind the process and meaning are as special. Owners Marie and Chase bought a 1960 ranch-style home to move with their family, we met, and it was an instant click. Through the design process, we got to create a progressive design that is very mindful of the way each space makes you feel. As you walk through the home, each space shows you new hints, surprise elements, and flowing architectural elements that lead the way.
On the outside, what was a symmetrical traditional home was reinvented to make you stop and think. Lined with steel fins and a sculptural canopy, you get a peek of what is happening inside.
The home that had a typical low and narrow entry with a stairway, dining on the left, all closed up needed to be reinvented. The space was opened up but preserves separations, having each space evoke a unique experience. As you walk into the space, you are greeted by a floating stair, lined with full-height glass on one side and a plaster wall on the left. Above is a large frameless skylight that fills the home with natural light. One of the first things you will see is the double-height living room beyond and the green of the lush backyard and its mature trees.
The family room is as functional as it is beautiful, this space is meant for relaxing with the family. It has full-height oak built-ins, media console, and a hidden bar for the grown-ups. The ceiling preserves the existing wood from the original home. As you walk into the main living room, there is a fireplace lined with linear brick and oak walls throughout. The sunroom is where we envision them drinking coffee and enjoying afternoon cocktails. The 20' wooden sierra pacific system makes you feel like you are outside. As you reach the back of the home, you will find the sunken kitchen. Bold, moody, and inviting. The full-height walnut cabinets, wolf appliances, Taj Majal countertops, and ribbed green marble backsplash make a lovely space. A green coffee bar looking out to the yard is a must! Cantera stone floors were used in this space. This stone is quarried, volcanic rock that was mined in Mexico. Its name derives from the Spanish word, Quarry. This was selected for the boys of the house (Chase and Archer, the little one) who loves fossils and dinosaurs.
The primary suite has an open flow, grounded by a full-height oak headboard showcasing handcrafted wall art made in Querétaro. The art resembles a landscape made by upcycling pieces of cotton thread from other pieces. Windows throughout, vaulted ceiling, and a Domofocus fireplace that hangs from the ceiling. So much to experience. The primary bath is a relaxation heaven. Ceiling and walls lined with thermally modified wood, a built-in Taj Mahal tub, and artistic tile made in Mexico.
Upstairs is the kids-only zone! It's so fun with artistic rugs, green terrazzo bathroom, and a secret door that leads you to a 300sqft playroom. Riley wanted the space to feel like the outside, so green carpets, skylights, and many plants fill the space with joy and nature.
Marie, the tech and quality control guru, made sure that this is the smartest home. The tech features include solar panels, highly efficient HVAC systems, Netatmo Smart Lighting, and a smart SPAN electrical panel. All to make this a very efficient home.
The backyard is a kids and grown-up heaven. The design, inspired by the lines of the existing pool, creates a layering where each level is a different feel and use. Concrete steps, aged teak wood decks, and sand terraces for the kids. It feels like a resort surrounded by a lush Texas native landscape.
