It is a myth and the fact is homoeopathic medicine is much faster in treatment than any other system of medicine if patient takes it as first line of treatment, But unfortunately it is last choice of peoples for any illness. People tend to go to a homeopath only when the acute problem becomes chronic, that is, it becomes more severe and difficult to treat. They choose homeopathy when other systems of medicine fail to treat or completely cure their medical condition, most often in cases like arthritis, asthma, rare skin conditions, etc. These cases naturally take longer to treat, even with any other system of medicine.
In summary, the time taken for relief is proportionate to the chronicity of the ailment. For e.g. if "X" is suffering from bronchial asthma and he is suffering for the last 14 years and has been to various systems of medicine. Now if you give him homeopathy and say in 2 years time the patient is completely alright, would you say that Homeopathy is slow to act
Question 2 : Is it true that homeopathic medicines are only placebos (sugar pills) or psychological?
The ‘placebo effect’ can be described as a positive change seen after a medical treatment, which is solely caused by the patient’s psychological response to the treatment. Homeopathy acts in children, animals and also on plants. It shows effective results in infants too, even in conditions like abdominal colic. This would not have been possible if homeopathic remedies were placebos.
Additionally, with countless cured cases and satisfied patients, it is difficult to believe that homeopathy would have been so popular and successful in around 180 countries across the world for over 200 years with just a placebo effect.
Question 3 : Is Homeopathy a proved science?
It definitely is. Homeopathy is a science based on sound logic and vast experimental data. It is the only medicinal science where data has been collected by proving on healthy human beings and not on animals because human beings can communicate their actual feelings during the testing while animals cannot. The principles of Homeopathy have been derived and authenticated by vast clinical experiments and data. The homeopathic pharmacopoeia lists more than 3000 remedies, whose clinical efficiency has been proved in various clinical trials conducted all over the world.
Question 4 : Why do all the homeopathic medicineslook alike?
Homeopathic medicines may look alike, but they are not the same. The basic ingredients of homeopathic medicines are derived from different sources, including plants and minerals. Their active principles are extracted into various solvents and the liquid homeopathic medicine is poured into globules(white pills) for better taste. The content within these globules is different in each individual case.
Question 5 : Do homeopathic medicines contain steroids?
Homeopathy believes in correcting the disorder instead of suppressing it, unlike steroid-based drugs. Therefore, using steroids is against the philosophy of homeopathy. All homoeopathic medicines use scientific methods of extracting medicinal properties from natural substances. There is no scope or need to adulterate the medicines with any other substance, as that would eliminate the curative properties of the medicine.
Question 6 : Does recurrence of illness happen after stopping homeopathic treatment?
The recurrence of your illness depends on several factors. You have to take medicines as advised by the homeopathic doctor for the recommended duration. If you stop the treatment midway because you see an improvement in your symptoms, there are high chances that your illness might recur. Your homeopath knows exactly how long you need to continue treatment for complete recovery.
So, to avoid recurrence, take the suggested dose of homeopathic remedy for the duration recommended to you. There might also be certain post-treatment, self-help care tips that the doctor might suggest. To avoid the recurrence of your illness, follow the post-treatment tips suggested by the physician.
Question 7 : Why don’t homeopathic doctors disclose the name of the medicine prescribed?
One of the biggest reasons behind the aggravation of diseases in patients today is self-medication. Potential risks of self-medication include incorrect dosage, severe adverse reactions, dangerous drug interactions, drug-dependency and aggravation of the condition. When patients know the name of the medicine that helped cure their symptoms once, they tend to treat their ailment with the same medicine in case of recurrence without the knowledge of the doctor. Thus, to avoid the practice of self-medication, a homeopath avoids disclosing the name of the medicine prescribed. Medicine taken without the doctor’s advice can do more harm than benefit.
Once thetreatment cycle is successfully over and the patient has recovered (i.e. asymptomatic for at least 3 months) the details of the case can be shared with you for research purposes.
The name of the medicine can be told to a close relative/guardian during the course of treatment in which case the disclosure of the same to the patient is prohibited for the benefit of the patient.
PLEASE NOTE: The information shared to the patient/relative/guardian are CONFIDENTIAL in nature and will be only helpful to the prescribed patient. If taken by any other, it may not be helpful or cause side effects.
Question 8 : Is it safe to take homeopathic medicine while breast feeding?
Homeopathic medicines are natural and do not cause toxic side-effects. They are safe for both the mother and the baby. Hence, homeopathic medicines can be safely taken by the mother while she is breast feeding.
Question 9 : Does Homeopathy believe in disease diagnosis and pathological investigations?
Yes. It is very essential to diagnose a disease, but for the selection of the remedy we require to know the characteristic symptoms of the patient and not the disease symptoms. For e.g. A person is having an attack of asthma with wheezing and congestion of the chest, and he gets relief only if he throws his head backwards. Wheezing and congestion of chest are symptoms of the disease, but for the selection of the remedy the important symptom is 'relief by throwing head backwards'. Hence to differentiate the disease symptoms with the individual characteristic symptoms, good knowledge of disease is important. Pathological investigations are also important to know disease diagnosis and prognosis, and judge the improvement.
Question 10 : Can diabettic patients take the homoeopathic pills?
Yes why not? As the daily dietary intake of sugar by a person would normally far exceed the minuscule quantity consumed in the form of homeopathic pills (Approximately the quantity of sugar consumed with 1 cup of tea is same as being consumed by entire week of Homeopathic medication). The patient also has an option of taking the medicines in liquid form, or by inhalation. Besides this, homeopathic pills are composed of lactose that is not harmful even for diabetes.
