This is a prusik knot, so it's adjustable until a load is put on the dangling loop. This is how the tarp attachment point is adjusted.
The hammock has a piece of hardware (that looks like a turtle) to lock the cord in place. You can also see the gathered end of the hammock here.
The tarp has two lengths depending on what configuration it is, so the tarp ride-line is adjustable here, with this little hardware bug.
This is how the tarp's storage bag is attached, so it can be deployed if it looks like it might rain, but be out of the way until it is needed.
