MIss the Confirmation Retreat?
As part of the journey to confirmation you are asked to perform 14 hours of community service starting in 9th grade and to be completed prior to confirmation.
All service is to be performed for free. If you are being paid for it, it cannot be counted as service hours for Confirmation. Your service hours can be in service to the Church. You can serve more than two hours in one place.
Church service is any service performed for the church. Examples are: work at Knights of Columbus dinners or breakfasts, work at church dinners, help with religious education tasks such as working with Pre-K students, stuffing envelopes for the church, shoveling snow or mowing the church lawn, etc.
Community service is any service performed for the community as a whole. Examples are: Crop Walk, Share, helping elderly neighbors with various projects, visiting nursing homes, serving at a soup kitchen, baby-sitting for someone, etc. Projects through 4-H or fund raisers for a project you are already involved in can not count.
They will also need to write reflections on their service. The reflections are their thoughts and feelings on their experience during these service hours.
Reflect on the following questions: Did you enjoy it? Did you hate it? What did you learn from the service you performed? How might this service help you later in life? How did the service relate to what you have learned in Confirmation class?
