All of us who are baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit share a special family table – the altar. God has prepared his table for us and the food on this table is the body and blood of Christ, found in, with and under the bread and wine. At this table we join other believers in Jesus Christ. We belong to a very big family, with a very long family history. In the Book of Acts we read about some of the early believers who lived in the years 30-75 A.D. “And they devoted themselves to the apostle’s teaching, and the fellowship, to the breaking of the bread, and the prayers.” (Acts 2:42) At the altar we are united with the whole people of God, not just with our own close family and not just with our own congregation. We are united with God’s baptized and believing people everywhere.
