The committee collectively is responsible for identifying age/grade appropriate assemblies in the fall and the spring. These would need to be within budget and cleared by Administration prior to signing any contracts - the Principal and Superintendent can often provide insight into what types of assemblies would be best. The committee collectively is responsible for planning the 8th grade dance and activities, including fundraising to pay for any costs incurred beyond the $2,000 built into the PTO budget. The below list are a set of suggested tasks that could be divided by multiple people:
Venue - Review venue options to accommodate the needs of the 8th grade class. Formalizes the details once a venue has been agreed upon.
Decorations - Plans out the decor based on the theme.
Food and Beverages - Coordinates food and beverages if venue does not supply.
Chaperones - Coordinates how many chaperones are required based on the 8th grade class and ensures the minimums are met.
Gifts - Coordinates the class gift.
The committee collectively is responsible for planning and holding two book fairs per year - one in the fall and one in the spring. The dates are to be cleared with Administration prior to signing any contracts. The below list are a set of suggested tasks that could be divided across the committee:
Dates - Coordinate between Scholastic and Administration what dates would work.
Book Lists - Pick the types of books and accessories to be sold.
Volunteers - Solicit PTO members to be part of setup, sale windows, and break down.
Raffle - A themed guessing jar to raffle off a book voucher.
Library/Staff Wish List - Ensure staff complete their wishlists and are published for families to contribute.
Families In Need - Ensure the families in need are able to receive books.
The committee collectively is responsible for ensuring the main bulletin boards are updated several times each year, preferably at the start of the school year prior to the students starting, and after winter break. This committee is great for crafty and creative PTO members!
The committee collectively is responsible for fundraising money for the school year so the PTO can support the school’s needs and community engagement. Fundraising can include large events (with a targeted fundraising goal of $5,000-10,000+) or could include smaller events (with fundraising goals of $1,000+). It’s up to you how much you are willing to take on! The below list are past fundraisers that have brought in various profits - but the Fundraising Committee is welcome to come up with new ideas! None of these events are meant to be executed by one person - the more hands helping, the easier the fundraising becomes!
Spirit Wear is a sub-committee under fundraising, and the chair does not hold a voting position. The committee collectively is responsible for setting up the spiritwear store at least twice a year to help the community show their Holland support.
The committee collectively is responsible for holding family events that are fun and free for families with kids of all ages - generally one event in the fall and one in the spring. These would need to be within budget and cleared by Administration prior to signing any contracts. Examples of family events that have been held in the past are:

The committee coordinates donations of baked goods, other snacks and beverages for school events held throughout the year. The Hospitality Committee will often ensure that book fair preview breakfasts have food available for staff and teachers, provide refreshments for school plays or concerts, and fundraisers.
The committee collectively is responsible for building the PTO membership throughout the year. They coordinate membership drives during August/September, and provide PTO representation at events within the school and community, for example, Back to School Night or Community Day.
The committee collectively is responsible for putting together events to show our appreciation for HTS staff. Events that have been put together in the past:
Welcome Breakfast - Grab and go breakfast spread for the day teachers start without students at the beginning of the year.
Souper Bowl - Solicit community to send in crocks of soup the Friday before the Super Bowl.
Gift Cards - A daily random giveaway during May’s teacher appreciation week (enough to ensure every staff member gets something).
Dessert Day - Solicit the community to send in desserts one day during May’s teacher appreciation week.
Flower Bouquet Day - Bring in various single stem flowers for staff to build their own bouquet during May’s teacher appreciation week.
The committee collectively is responsible for maintaining the PTO website (part of the HTS website) to ensure that the community has visibility to PTO activities, fundraisers, and events. The chair is responsible for posting meeting schedules, agendas, and minutes, as well as sharing information and flyers for upcoming events or fundraisers. This committee may also support the Secretary with PTO Social Media.
The Nominating Committee consists of three PTO members. A chairperson is appointed at the February Monthly Meeting, and volunteers are solicited from the membership. The Nominating Committee helps to solicit nominees and volunteers for officer positions and committee chair positions, and will present candidates for all open positions at the April PTO meeting.
The Budget Committee is comprised of the PTO President, Treasurer, Fundraising Committee Chairperson, and a minimum of two other PTO members. Volunteers for the budget committee are solicited at the February meeting. The committee meets to refine the budget for the upcoming school year, and presents it to the membership ahead of the May or June meeting for a vote to approve or revise.
