Acupuncture is defined in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as the ability to shift qi (energy) and blood throughout the body to achieve a stable equilibrium or homeostasis. Acupuncture needles are typically very tiny and painless when inserted. They are put in particular areas known as acupoints along meridians or energy highways. The positioning of the needles opens the closed qi circuits, much like substations on an electrical grid.
In 1996, I graduated from Boston, Massachusetts' famous New England School of Acupuncture. It is the country's first and only acupuncture school. I studied both Japanese and traditional Chinese acupuncture techniques there. I've learned to make the best out of each of these distinct approaches and mix them. A greater and deeper needle stimulation is required in Chinese acupuncture. While Japanese acupuncture relies on a more delicate needling method with extremely shallow needle insertion and considerably more palpation.

The majority of Western medicine is founded on reductionism. That is the emphasis of a single portion without regard for its link to the total. Being holistic means seeing everyone with an understanding that we are complex human beings made up of numerous interrelated and interdependent operating systems. I specialize in comprehending the human mind-body-spirit link, and our patients are treated accordingly. I collaborate with my patients to establish a trustworthy connection.
