We are so proud of these kids and so excited to watch it all come together this week—and grateful for a tiny breather today before we go headlong into it all! Thank you! Thank you! To each of you, and to all who have signed up to help with these last two weeks of rehearsals and performances! It takes so many working together to pull this off! Thank you in advance for re-arranging your family calendars to make sure your kids are at their rehearsals from start to finish. Every child counts, as does every moment they get to practice on stage.
This is what you need to know:
Base costumes need to be in your child’s backpack Thursday morning for Summer Cast and Friday morning for Winter Cast. Double check the list here, and try everything on today, so you can find any last minute things before Thursday.
Right after school for 3 hours and 15 minutes on Tuesday, Summer Cast, and on Wednesday, Winter Cast are our Tech rehearsals which means we will add microphones, all props, and set changes to the chaos. Which equals longer rehearsals and more waiting in the library for their times on stage. Please send your child with a snack to eat before we begin and a book or games to share with friends while they wait for their next scene. Library Volunteers, kids love it when you bring something new to do at the tables like coloring pages, games and toys. Thank you for being there from start to clean up! If kids bring an electronic device, they have been warned that they have to jump and run as soon as they are called for their next scene, or they will all lose the privilege of using electronics as entertainment.
Right after school for 3 hours Thursday, Summer Cast and Friday, Winter Cast, we will add costumes! It's the kids favorite part, and the result of hundreds of hours of work and preparation by our Costume Directors Lisa Wait and Shay Phister, and many other volunteers, and they look amazing! This show has multiple costumes for each actor. They will each have a designated bag and/or hanger with all their costumes, WHICH THEY WILL SHARE with someone from the other cast. It is imperative that they keep their costume pieces in their designated spot, so they and their counterpart have what they need day after day. It is also imperative that every kid shower and wash his/her base costume after every dress rehearsal or performance, so costumes stay clean. Please remind your kids to be respectful and patient if they have questions or concerns about how their costume fits.
Saturday, Winter Cast starts at 9:00am and ends at 12:30. Summer Cast starts at 1:30 and ends at 5:00. Please be on time and stay to the end. We will be taking cast pictures at the end of Winter Cast Dress Rehearsal and the beginning of Summer Cast, and candids of the kids while they perform. We will run the whole show like a performance, including bows, and the kids will go home and practice just a little harder, so they feel ready for next week!
A note about sound: We have a partially new sound system, and a lot to learn about how to make it run smoothly. Every child who has a line or solo will have either a wireless headset or use a handheld mic. But making that happen means a lot of juggling and prep. Please be patient about the sound. Remember we are an elementary school production run by volunteers, not professional sound artists. Despite endless testing and our best efforts, there will be missed cues, static, and random inexplicable issues, and it's all part of the growing and learning for our kids. Thank you for not complaining or criticizing.
Thank you SO much for signing up to help as a chaperone, or with concessions, or costume changes, etc. There are still available slots to help: Volunteer Sign Up.
