Project Description:
The aim of this research is how social media affects both society and my private life. Also, I had to take a social media addiction quiz to see if I am addicted to social media.
After taking the “AM I ADDICTED TO SOCIAL MEDIA?” QUIZ, I realized I used social media way too much! The results stated,
Congratulations! Psychologists estimate that as many as 5 to 10% of Americans meet the criteria for social media addiction today. But luckily, that's not you! Not checking social media every few minutes doesn't make you feel anxious, as you prefer to live 'in the moment' rather than through your apps. You use social media to your advantage, at work and to connect with friends and family, but you know when to put it away. Keep it up!
I am doing great with social media because I don’t use it that much. The quiz states that a have a healthy relationship with social media. I was never addicted to social media. But last two years I minimized it as much as I could.
The most interesting statistic from the Pew Research Articles is that the age differences generally extend to the use of specific platforms. For example ages between 18-29 use youtube, Snapchat, and Instagram. Matter of fact I thought young age that is between 18-29 may use the most Tiktok since there are many using Tiktok. But I was wrong since youtube is the most used around young ages. The data matches my own use of youtube and it is the only social media that I use the most.
In my opinion, social media has negative and positive effects. One of its positives is that you can connect with people no matter how far or where they live through social media. It also helps us learn and there are helpful resources in the media. But its negativity is associated with depression, self-harm, and even suicidal thought. I feel like it is negativity that is impacting society. Because more people are engaged in social media and forget their real lives.
This project was very insightful because I learn how people use social media and how long they use it. I also learn the most sites that are used among different ages. I find out that my relationship with social media is a healthy one. It was a lot of fun doing this project.
