Howl extol the game of Bowls
March 22nd
After our recent tenpin bowling exploits, eleven Howlers took up Sue and Stuart’s kind invitation to try something different - Short Mat Bowls at the club they run - The Wey Valley Indoor Bowling Club, Guildford.
Michael and Marilyn, who also play regularly and local coach Colin, joined the group, guiding us.
Sue had covered all bases as her pre-event message indicated –
Cost: £5 a head (inc Stuart’s coaching fee 😉)
Lunch: Table booked for 1 pm in the cafe. Everyone to pay for themselves.
Hope you all have a great time.
There will be a play-off match, so please bring your competitive edge (and your sense of humour)!’
We demonstrated our skills (or lack of) in a fun session. There were some quite commendable attempts plus a few more wayward ones.
Scrutininsing going on here! - seriously but always in a fun manner
Easter eggs were very appropriate seasonal awards for the winners.
A great branch event - thanks to Sue and Stuart for organising.
Billy’s on the Road
March 8th
Ten Howlers set off from Rykas to ride through the chilly, misty Surrey Hills to Billy’s on the Road at Billingshurst
There, we were joined by Peter and Michael. Great to see both of them back on the road again
Seated at the ‘Train Table, we warmed up, working our way through their menu
(Kippers for me!).
Cindy swapped last week's Chopsticks for Menu Spoons
Anne's new Hair-do matched her sweater - what a coincidence!
Afterwards, Nicole and Peter kindly invited us back to their place for more tea and biccies.
A well-attended fun day out
Loomies looms large
(at last...)
March 4th
Five Howlers took advantage of the continued good weather for our first midweek run of the year - a Brunch run to Loomies.
Despite roadworks , threats of road closures on the A3 and A31, more roadworks, roadblocks (a mobile home got wedged on the services slip road)- more roadworks and a brain-fart moment of taking the wrong roundabout exit necessitating a U turn, we finally shook off the last of the s-l-o-w vehicles to enjoy some empty Hampshire lanes.
Unexpected house in the bagging area !

... HOWL were here 😉
Bloody Bikers!!
Bloody Hipsters!!
After sustenance, we basked in the warm Spring sunshine discussing our next run on Sunday, which by coincidence is to … another food stop.
The Sun Shines on the Righteous😉
Horsing around
in the Garden
Feb 28th
Nineteen Howlers plus one Horse welcomed in the Chinese New Year of the Firehorse at The Zen Garden Leatherhead
Anne left many of the customers speechless as she entered the restaurant looking as if she’d just dropped in from nearby Epsom.
This guy was speechless ...or just miserable!
Most people mastered the chopsticks as we enjoyed an evening full of laughs.
And the event was topped off with Cindy winning Charles’ imaginative quiz at a canter
Sunday Lunch
at The Star
Feb 22nd
Sixteen HOWLERS returned to what is becoming a favourite venue with generous portions and a varied menu …and some fine Ales. I originally only booked for eight, but the numbers quickly swelled.
Cindy ordered her food straight away and was tucking in almost before all of us had found our places!
Great to see Peter and Nicole back from their trip down under. We all took care not to give Peter a welcoming handshake or pat on the back.
We will be feasting again soon to celebrate the Chinese New Year - the Year of the Firehorse
Howl Hotshots
strike again
Feb 1st
11 Howl Hotshots blew away the February chills at Guildford Spectrum with a dazzling display of Tenpin Bowling talent.
Strikes and spares abounded as we hurled, spun and skidded our way down the lanes with pinpoint accuracy with ne’er a side rail used.
Sue B was the overall winner, taking the crown from last year’s winner, Steve, whilst Tom was a close 3rd. The highest score was actually recorded by MissTerry, a fictional ‘12th man’ made up of all members of the team on lane six – well, as that famous Greek Biking philosopher Aristotle once said, ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, or something like that –
...but Sue still got the prize of chocolates😉
Thanks go to Charles for organising
Free Drinks
at The Magpie
Jan 8th
14 Howlers had a fun evening at The Magpie for our first club night of the year. Santa looked in on his way back to Lapland (courtesy of Anne) with toffees and jelly babies - even balancing one on his head.
Petar was not the only one to indulge as we took advantage of our £100 voucher from our Xmas meal, to offer free drinks all round.
Lovely to welcome back Jaklin, Petar’s daughter, who as pillion, braved the rain of storm Goretti - and did wonders for the average age of the group
And well done to Anne for signing up for another 3 years HOC Membership 👏
CHILLY RYKAS MEET
Jan 1st
Twelve HOWLers - ten adults, one mini-HOWLer, and Barney the dog - who didn’t howl - chilled out at a post Xmas/New Year’s Day gathering at Ryka’s. It was good to meet up with Mark again – he along with Gary and Cindy and Simon and Karen and Mark were hardcore and came by bike. We would have come on two wheels, but Jude’s knee recuperation won’t stretch to that. Indeed, ‘twas a bit chilly, with the temperature weirdly colder mid-afternoon, than the morning but a great way to start the New Year.
On a cold day, Karen and Mark were hardcore
