Our department goal is a continuation from our 2020-2021 goal. We have been supporting those students who are first time honors students, while working on identifying those students from underrepresented groups to further provide access and opportunity.
To increase the percentage of all students who enroll in an honors course to 65%, by the end of the 2020-2021 school year and increase the enrollment of Black and Hispanic students by 9%/10% respectively.
Baseline Data:
For the 20-21 school year, of the 1150 students at HMS, 684 (59.5%) enrolled in one or more Honors course. By the end of the 2021-2022 school year, at least 65% of all our students will be enrolled in an Honors course.
For the 20-21 school year, of the 77 Black students at HMS, 47 Black students (61.0%) enrolled in one or more Honors course. By the end of the 2021-2022 school year, at least 70% (54 students) of Black students will complete an honors course.
For the 20-21school year, of the 548 Hispanic students at Herndon MS, 206 (37.6 %) enrolled in one or more Honors course. By the end of the 2021-2022 school year, at least 47% (258) of Hispanic students will enroll in an honors course.
Goal modified from HMS 20-21 SIIP to provide access and opportunity to underrepresented groups.

By June 2019, identified students who have missed 10% or more days of school the previous school year (88 students) will decrease their absenteeism average from 13.6% to 10% as measured by comparing the overall average percentage of total absences from June 2018 to June 2019.
Baseline Data:
We selected those students who had 10% or more days absent for the prior school year 2017-2018, totaling 88 students. Our target group, on average, had missed 13.6% of school in the 17-18 school year. This calculates to 1,982 school days that were missed in 17-18 which is about 22.5 days of school per student.
As of May 15, 2019 we have 75 out of the 88 original students remaining in our target group. We had students move throughout the school year and 4 students (from the original target population) exempt due to extenuating medical and/or mental health circumstances. With these changes, our new data shows:
· On average, our students missed 13.55% of school during the 17-18 school year.
· All together, these 75 students missed a total of 1689 school days last year.
· On average, each student is estimated to have missed about 23 school days during the 17-18 school year.
Results:
On average, these 75 students decreased their percent of days absent from 13.55% to 9.87%. This is a difference of 3.68%. The data shows:
· 56 out of the 75 targeted students, 74.6%, showed improvement with their school attendance this year.
· 48 students attended 90% or more school days.
· The average number of school days missed per student decreased from 23 to 15. Estimated, this shows that each student was present in school about 8 more days this year.
· Together, these 75 students missed 1689 school days last year. This number has decreased to 1128 school days this year. This calculates to be 561 extra days these students were present in school which is estimated to be about 7.5 days per student.
