School hours are 9:30 am - 4:15 pm Monday - Thursday. Friday early release school hours are 9:30 am - 3:15 pm. Hoover Middle School opens at 9:00 am for students who wish to have breakfast at school and/or for students who attend morning clubs/tutoring. Hoover Middle School does not offer before/after-school care.
Electives - To be Full MYP students need to take 8th Elective (two 1/2 year electives), a World Language, and Algebra. Math Placement is based off of 6th grade teacher's recommendation.

IB - International Baccalaureate. Our school is "authorized" to understand and adopt the IB’s philosophy and values. IB aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who contribute to creating a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. Each month we will celebrate and encourage different IB learning traits.
MYP - Middle Years Programme is a challenging framework of learning designed for students aged 11-16 (MYP2=7th Grade, MYP3= 8th Grade). 9th and 10th grade at Melbourne High School will be MYP. Full MYP will prepare you for IB. In 10th grade you decide if you want to follow the IB Career Program (earn industry certification) or IB Diploma Program (earn up to 42 college credits). Colleges want IB students (Acceptance Rate FSU 92%, UCF 90%, UF 82%).
PBIS - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. Students earn tickets when teachers catch them being Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn. Admin will also award tickets to students showing School Spirit. Tickets are awarded to the student’s account in Focus and can be redeemed for drinks, treats from the Hawk Store, open Gym, or open Media Center. It focuses on teaching and supporting positive behaviors, rather than solely reacting to negative ones, and aims to improve social, emotional, and academic outcomes for everyone.
PLT - Parent Leadership Team. Parents are invited to go to a school board meeting and bring information back to our school.
REACH - Reaching Exceptional Academic and Challenging Heights. A rigorous curriculum to prepare students for a seamless transition into accelerated high school programs such as Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and Dual Enrollment. Graduating 6th graders turn in completed application in January before 7th grade.
2025-2026 Supply List We recommend sending your student to school on the first day with basics such as paper, pen, pencil, folder and binder.
BPS Student Code of Conduct (Tardy Discipline Pg.14, Dress Code Pg.20, Cell Phone Pg.56) students are not allowed to use personal electronics during school hours, which includes cell phones, smart phones, and earbuds. The policy is that devices should be off and in your backpack for the school day. In case of an emergency, families can contact the front office to leave a message - administration deliver students' messages during lunch.
Students are not allowed to exit night events without adult supervision. If your student will participate in any of our night events, please make prior arrangements for pick up. When you arrive at the designated pick up areas, you will be greeted by a Hoover Middle School staff members, who will ask you for the names of the students being picked up. Then, they will ask you to drive all the way to the front of the line, and wait for your student(s) to come out. It is a quick and safe process. The SRO will direct traffic.
7th graders will be picked up by the bus loop. Families should enter the bus loop by Washington Ave, and form a car line.
8th graders will be picked up by the music hall. These families should use the gates located on E Riviera Blvd to enter the parking lot.
This school year, Hoover students and teachers will be using Beanstack, a platform designed to make reading fun! Beanstack uses competition, recognition, and proven gamification principles to motivate students to read and develop a life-long love of reading!
The best preparation for testing is regular attendance, getting a good night of sleep, and eating a good breakfast on test day. There is a district assessment for Civics for 7th graders and Math for 8th graders in May. The school will offer bootcamp to help students close to the test dates. Your student has to turn in a permission slip to attend bootcamp.
