This is the first performance of Heritage March by David Rollyson. The piece was originally written in the early 1990's for Dave's son, Brandon and the school's band. Brandon was was among the first students to attend Heritage Middle School when it opened in 1992. Unfortuantely, the march was never performed. 

In 2024, Mr. Poteat obtained the original score and parts from Rollyson. After inputting the march into current software and making some adjustments, Poteat was not satisfied enough to present it to Dave. In March 2026, Mr. Poteat reached out to long time friend and band composer, Chris Ferguson. After a short review of the march and some suggested edits, Heritage March was finally ready to present and honor the original composer.

Heritage March was premiered on May 5, 2026 

by the HMS 8th Grade Band.

On Tuesday, March 18, 2025 our Concert Band performed at the NW District MPA on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne University. They received an EXCELLENT rating including a Superior in the Sightreading Room.

On Saturday, May 13, 2023 the 7th & 8th Grade Concert Band and Percussion Ensemble earn Superior Ratings . Both groups finished 1st in their class, earning the highest overall scores for their class, and earned highest score of the entire festival weekend and enjoyed the rest of the day at Carowinds. Great finish to an amazing year!
