Choir 5 and Choir 6

are elective classes for beginning choir students that meet every other day. Focus is on working together as a group to achieve a successful performance through rhythm and melody, part singing, and performance skills. Students learn and use solfege as the musical alphabet to apply beginning reading skills to learning repertoire. The choirs are exposed to a variety of genres of music in this exploratory class, and sixth graders have at least one voice lesson spring semester. Attendance at three evening concerts per year is expected.

Treble 7 and Treble 8

are elective classes for treble voices who are ready for an intermediate level of choir experience. The classes meet every other day, and a minimum of one lesson per semester is required (students are allowed to choose between group lessons and individual lessons). Focus is on advancing rhythm, melody and part singing, including use of solfege and sight reading, while also working on the physical mechanics of singing and score literacy. Having participated in Choir 5 and/or choir 6 is helpful, but not required. Three performances per year are a requirement of this course.

Raider Chorus

is an elective class for 7th and 8th grade tenor/bass voices combined and meets every other day. This is a unique opportunity to explore and understand their changing voices, and learn reading skills particular to their sections, while being exposed to a wide variety of repertoire. Small group lessons are offered during class meeting times and occasionally outside of class, with a primary goal of understanding each individual voice. Students are encouraged to take a lead role in advocating for their individual vocal needs. Having participated in Choir 5 and/or choir 6 is helpful, but not required. Three performances per year are a requirement of this course.
