Self-Portraits
Inspired by the artist, director, producer, and writer Tim Burton, students created a black and white spooky self-portrait. Features of Tim Burton's characters include large heads and eyes, elongated necks, and simple noses and eyes. Shading and details were added with black and white colored pencils.
Landscapes
These winter watercolor scenes were so fun to make! Students began by using masking tape to block off birch trees in the foreground, middle ground, and background. We used watercolor to add in the sky and tree shadows on the snow. Finally the birch tree detail was added by dipping small pieces of cardboard in black paint and gently dragging them across the trees.
Still Life
Using artist Wayne Thiebaud as inspiration, students created large scale cakes with oil pastel. Using white to make highlights and black to make shadows, students had a strong focus on value and form. Yum!
