Some attribute this quote to Rényi. Either way, it's a victory for the Hungarians.
BS Mathematics is appropriate for students seeking a deep and diverse training in many subdisciplines of mathematics. Students pursuing this degree may be preparing for graduate study in mathematics or another related discipline, or a career in quantitative fields. Students will learn techniques and tools for creating and understanding mathematics itself. The coursework for BS Math includes fundamental topics like algebraic structures, real and complex analysis, number theory, and so on.
BS Applied Mathematics is appropriate for students seeking a well-rounded training in applied mathematics, with an emphasis on computation and algorithmic processes appearing in the wider sciences. Using technology to analyze problems is part of this training. The degree is suitable for students pursuing graduate study and/or a wide variety of careers. The coursework for BS Applied Math includes versatile topics like partial differential equations, modeling, probability, and so on.
BA Mathematics is appropriate for students seeking training in essential subdisciplines of mathematics, with fewer advanced electives than the BS. BA Math is easy to adopt as a secondary major, or for students with a wide variety of interests at CWRU.
All three majors have a lot in common, but the difference is in outcomes and the required upper-level coursework.
In general, pick a degree that solves the problems you are interested in!

Contact your Major/Pre-Major Advisor for questions about:
General advice for college, the freshman experience, and Case Western Reserve University
General advice for your area of interest, research, and career goals
The major declaration process
Lifting advising holds
Anything that comes up!
Once your major is declared, you are assigned a Major advisor and your pre-major advisor becomes your designated advisor.
Contact your Four-Year Advisor for questions about:
Your transcript, 4-year degree plan, course overloads, degree requirements, assistance with SIS, Stellic, information about transfer credit, etc.
Four-year advisors are Assistant Deans in the Office of Undergraduate Advising. They work tirelessly to make sure you are meeting your requirements for graduation.
Contact your Designated Advisor (the former pre-major advisor) if your major/four-year advisor is absent, such medical leave, sabbatical, etc.
All of these people are listed in your SIS.
PS - The names are confusing! But understanding the roles each person plays will help with the names. Your four-year advisor ensures you graduate on time in four years with careful degree planning. Your major advisor assists with your subject area. Your pre-major advisor also does this, but before you actually declare. The designated advisor (much like a designated survivor...) is always there in the background to advocate for you if all else fails.
