New Class Routine NEP 2025-26
The department of History started functioning since the commencement of our College in 1944. From a very humble beginning in 1944, today it is academically one of the richest Department of the college including both Post Graduate and Under Graduate (Honours & Pass) sections. Regular Post Graduate Course has been introduced to the department in 2003. The section is a flourishing one producing scholarly students each year. The Post Graduate Section has received academic autonomy in 2017 which is another milestone achieved by the department. The section comprises of a number of dedicated faculty members whose hardwork and willingness are the pillars of the department. The faculty members are constantly evolving their teaching methodologies and strategies for the benefit of the students and they continue to enrich themselves by attending and participating in various national and international seminar, conferences and workshops.
The Postgraduate section also has a separate section in the Central Library of Malda College that offers a great variety of books and materials on historical studies and research. The library offers access to numerous journals, newspapers, magazines and various online resources as well which benefits the students to a great extent.
Programme Outcome of History
Contrary to stereotypical perspective History is not an obsolete discipline. Itis, rather, a thriving field of study offering various opportunities to the students. The courses are designed keeping in mind the demands of the present age. The courses seek to give an wholesome idea about History as a discipline. The programme of study provide a comprehensive idea of the past events so that the learners can perceive the connection between the past and the present. They are enabled to follow the causation of events that provides a better understanding of History. Nowadays History is studied not in isolation but with an interdisciplinary attitude and the courses fulfill that purpose as well.
At present historical study and research requires painstaking referencing of information and sources and constant search for new data that can reconstruct history. Historiography forms a major part in studying History today that shows that History can be written and constructed from various perspectives.
The courses designed both for the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Sections of our Department accomplishes these goals sufficiently. We provide courses focused not only upon regional and national history, but equally upon global international history. We are always on the lookout to continuously develop our courses and syllabus to provide a better learning experience to our students.
