Black History Month Special: NWAAM

After over two years of being closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Northwest African American Museum has reopened! Year-round, the museum features exhibits on the historical contributions of African American people to the Pacific Northwest Region, sharing the stories of black settlers, WWII pilots, activists, and many others. Current limited-time exhibitions include “A Long Walk to Hope” which runs from January 16 to April 29 and offers a collection of photographs and posters from the annual Martin Luther King jr. Day March held in Seattle. Another limited-time exhibition running from January 16 to June 24 is “The Colors of Life”, an exuberant presentation of abstract art created by black artists from the Northwest. On February 22 for Black History month, the museum will also be working with the University of Washington to host a Research and Writing Workshop for college students open to virtual and in-person attendance in the Special Collections Room (click here for the NWAAM’s events page). If you wish to donate to the NWAAM and support its mission and community members, here is a link to do so.
