The Joint Meeting for Selection of Head of National University Corporation Institute of Science Tokyo (hereinafter "the Joint Meeting") decided on June 18, 2024 to nominate Naoto Ohtake, currently Professor and Director-General of the Institute of Innovative Research, Tokyo Institute of Technology, as the final candidate for the inaugural president of National University Corporation Institute of Science Tokyo (quoted from University Website). Congraturation Prof. Ohtake !!

On November 24th, Professor C.H. Yu from National Cheng Kung University visited our laboratory and gave a lecture on machine learning simulations. 

On October 2nd, Professors Volker Weihnacht, Stefan Makowski, and Fabian Härtwig from the Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology IWS in Germany visited our laboratory. There has been a long-standing exchange between their institute and our laboratory. They gave a lecture on the deposition of superhard carbon films and research on superlubricity technology. 

From September 10th to 14th, the 33rd International Conference on Diamond and Carbon Materials (ICDCM) was held in Mallorca, Spain. From Hirata Laboratory, Professor Hirata and two second-grade master's students, Yuto Tamenori, Hayata Fujimoto, and Kasumi Tsutsumi attended and presented their research. 

From August 6th to the 25th, Professors Peter Kelly and Justyna Kulczyk-Malecka from Manchester Metropolitan University visited our research laboratory. We are collaborating on a joint research project funded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) involving the application of synthesized hBN thin films in fuel cells. 

From December 11th to 15th, Pacific Rim Symposium on Surface, Coatings & Interfaces (PacSurf 2022)  was held in Big Island of Hawaii, USA. From Hirata Laboratory, Professor Hirata attended and presented.

From November 1st to 30th, Hirota and master's student Kanata Yoshii stayed at the research laboratory of Dr. Peter Kelly and Dr. Justyna Kulczyk-Malecka at Manchester Metropolitan University. The professors' laboratory has been collaborating with us on joint research as part of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science's Bilateral Joint Research Projects, focusing on the application of synthesized hBN films in fuel cells. 

From September 4th to 8th, the 32nd International Conference on Diamond and Carbon Materials (ICDCM) was held in Lisbon, Portugal. From Hirata Laboratory, Professor Hirata and one PhD student, Takeshi Konno attended and presented their research.
