I’m Eana Hipolito, an indie artist from Calamba City, Laguna.
This project comes from my own journey and the stories I have witnessed among emerging graphic literature creators. I have seen many talented artists who pour their hearts into their work but struggle with the professional side of their careers. They are unsure how to present themselves through a portfolio, they hesitate when it comes to pitching, and they face real challenges in making their art financially sustainable. I know these struggles well because I have encountered them myself, and I wanted to design something that could ease that burden for others. This project is my way of offering guidance that I wish I had when I was starting out.
I shaped this project through my own educational philosophy. For me, education always begins with the learner. It is rooted in lived experience, not in memorizing steps handed down by someone else. I believe learning happens best when people are given space to reflect, to share, and to build knowledge together. This is the same belief that guides KultOU, where collaboration and creativity are central to growth. In this project, I see myself not as someone dictating rules but as a facilitator who creates the right environment for artists to gain confidence and direction.
My philosophy draws on constructivism, progressivism, and humanistic traditions. I hold to constructivism because I see how powerful it is when learners build knowledge by doing. That is why I designed activities where participants create their own portfolios, practice pitching, and experiment with crowdfunding. Progressivism matters to me because I believe education should respond to the needs of its time, which is why this toolkit is flexible and open to the changing realities of the creative industry. Humanistic education reminds me to value the learner as a whole person, not only as an artist. That is why I built in reflective prompts that ask participants to think about their values, their well-being, and their goals.
At the core of my philosophy are three beliefs. Learning is tied to lived experience. Education should empower people to take ownership of their path. Creativity is a process that requires both structure and freedom. These beliefs guided every decision I made in this project. I wanted the toolkit to be more than a manual. I wanted it to feel like a companion that provides structure while still leaving space for individuality and self-expression.
First and foremost, I would like to thank my mother and my sister whose unwavering love, patience, and encouragement have supported me from the very beginning of my UPOU journey. Their belief in me has been the foundation on which this entire project rests.
I would also like to sincerely thank my project adviser, Sir Ley, for their guidance, patience, and valuable insights that helped shape this work from its conception to completion.
My gratitude extends to the Bachelor of Education Studies (BES) program faculty whose teachings on instructional design, educational theory, and research became the foundation of this project.
Special thanks to KultOU for their collaboration and encouragement. Their commitment to creative and cultural initiatives enriched the direction and impact of this work.
I also wish to acknowledge the Graphic Literature Guild (GLG), whose community helped me embrace and cultivate my interest in graphic literature, which continues to inspire my academic and creative journey.
To Alphonse, my partner, I extend my deepest gratitude for their tremendous support, patience, and encouragement throughout this process. Their presence has been a source of strength and inspiration.
I am also grateful for the steadfast support of my friends. To Fedrick, Migoy, Ren, Nard, Gelo, Debbie, and Mau, the best group of friends a man could ever wish for, your friendship has been invaluable. To my UPOU friends Gigi, Prel, Kalin, and Akisha, thank you for sharing this academic journey with me. To my friends from high school Shawn, Cesz, Aouie, Zoe, Khayla, and Divine, your enduring presence in my life has been a constant source of encouragement.
Finally, I wish to thank my peers and colleagues whose encouragement and belief in my capacity sustained me through this journey.
This project is dedicated to all artists who deserve not only recognition for their craft but also the financial freedom to thrive, create, and live with dignity.
