Hillsborough Walled Gardeners

We meet each month on the 1st Wednesday in the month at the Gardeners Rest on Neepsend Lane at 7:30 pm for a social chat about activities and issues concerning the garden.

But our main activity is a weekly practical morning on most Tuesdays from 9.30 am until 1.00 pm in the Walled Garden which is mainly gardening and maintenance of the structures. There can be up to 25 of us doing whatever each person wants to do in order to keep the garden up to standard. We have a tea break at around 11.15 when we can share any thoughts about the development of the garden.

There are normally a few people who also come regularly on Wednesday mornings.

We do periodic craft sessions too - either repairing our existing willow structures or making new items for our Open Days.

We are part of the Neighbourly scheme and receive unwanted plants from B&Q that we bring on in our greenhouses then sell to create funds to improve the garden.

There are also opportunities to be involved in applying for grants for work that we want to do, for equipment that we need to buy or for events that we want to stage. We also need to maintain some admin in order to manage volunteers, ensure we have public liability insurance and apply for awards like the Green Flag Community and Yorkshire In Bloom awards.

So, if you enjoy gardeneing, simple maintenance tasks, craft activities and events or want to help out in any other way then please come along and see what we do.
