A Virtual World Event
OpenSim is a virtual world platform similar to Second Life.
Unlike Second Life, 'OpenSim' does not refer to one single grid. It is the umbrella term for hundreds of independently owned and operated grids, all of varying size, and style; some commercial, some entirely free, some a mixed economy. These grids are accessible to each other - you can travel (teleport) from one world to another with your avatar, rather than having to set up a separate account on each grid. Teleporting between grids is called 'hypergridding'.
New to OpenSim? The best way to join us 'in person' at the Hypergrid International Expo, is to open an account on Craft Grid.
Already active in OpenSIm? An avatar associated with any hypergrid-enabled grid can be used to get to Craft Grid.
How can I understand all these languages ?
You will be able to follow the presentations, even if they are in languages you do not speak.
On Craft Grid, join the Group for your language of choice : HIE English, Hie Francais, Hie Deutsch etc.
"Subtitles' are provided in Group Chat, giving you the main points of each talk or presentation.
Keep up to date with the latest Expo news by reading the HIE Blog

Artistic Presentations
Art and visual effects transcend the spoken and written word. That's why this year's event features artistic presentations in each section of the conference.
From dance and poetry to immersive environments, particles and rezzed objects, virtual artists draw the public in, capture their imagination, and gift to us all some unforgettable experiences as we become part of the story they tell through light, color, and movement. Check the Schedule for the day/time of these unique performances.
Velazquez Bonetto
Tutz Zabelin
Nyx Breen
Each art performance integrated into the main conference will surprise our audience with effects that are most definitely 'Not Possible In Real Life'!
For our grand finale on Sunday 21 April we will be moving from the auditorium regions to HIE Welcome for a special display of the EEP art of Nyx Breen where sky and water will be dancing along with the partygoers, celebrating the end of another breathtaking HIE event.
Attend via the Hypergrid!
Use your home-grid avatar to join us on Craft craft-world.org:8002:HIE Welcome
Once you have rezzed on this region, use the portals to reach the Auditorium regions.
No tickets. No sponsors. No money charged or solicited.
No registration required, no requests for your personal information.
No avatar discrimination, although please try to be lag-aware in your outfit choices!
The Expo Park
Lorin Tone
California
I have been a musician/sound designer since 1976 and have been active in virtual worlds for 16 years. I teach a regular class on the subject of inworld sound effects and I have the largest sound effects shop in Opensim in Alternate Metaverse Grid.
Tina Bey
Argentina
My interest in sci fi began when I was little, I saw the moon landing on the moon on TV... I thought I was there. Today with the creations I make I am making that dream come true. I like to imagine how we would supply ourselves, how to live to space. I like to look at the earth from the moon, it balances my ideas.
An Expo Park surrounds the Auditorium. It is a wooded area covering 3 regions. In the Expo Park, there is a long winding path that weaves its way between the trees, and along this path you will find artwork representing the themes of our event, by Tina Bey and Lorin Tone.
You will also see about 100 small publicity booths. Each one is a piece of Opensim! These booths represent projects, groups, grids, musicians, builders and artists of many different parts of the Metaverse. Come explore, pick up interesting gifts, Landmarks and Notecards, and learn just how much diversity and imagination Opensim has to offer!
The HIE Team
HIE is organized by a team of five. Each brings a unique skillset and shared enthusiasm for this complex event. There is much to do: Recruit and rehearse our speakers, get the Auditorium & Stage sims ready.
The 'subtitles' are translated into 5 languages, to be shared with the public in Group Chat on the day.
Last but not least, we'll be streaming and filming the whole event.
Film Crew
HIE is broadcast live on YouTube, and after the event, you can watch individual videos of each of the talks and performances. This is possible thanks to our stellar Film crew guided by James Atlloud, Each videographer brings their own style and talent to the event, overcoming the unique challenges of filming in a virtual environment and we thank them for their expertise in making this event memorable in so many ways!
