The iZettle is a card reader accessory for a mobile phone, either Android or IOS, which allows the registration team to take payments using contactless or PIN cards, or Apple Pay or Google Pay. The money, minus a small transaction fee, goes straight to the HH bank account.
The SI coordinator keeps it with the HH download and results kit.
Note: since Covid, we have not used it, preferring to keep everything through online entry.
The iZettle device is very easy to use, but a little preparation is required:
Install the “iZettle Go” app on your Apple or Android phone.
Log in with your own username/password - provided by an iZettle administrator, see below.
Get the iZettle device and link it with your phone. Only one phone can be linked at a time:
In the app, go to “Settings” then “Card Reader”
Select “iZettle Reader”, and follow the instructions to sync via Bluetooth. Note: you may need to retry if mobile data signal is weak.
Select “Products” at the top of the app (not “Amount”)
Pick your event (i.e. “Saturday Series”)
Tap on each “product” you wish to charge for (e.g. “Senior member”, “Dibber hire”) to add it to the basket.
Check the total at the bottom. You can check, amend or empty the basket by tapping the basket icon. If OK, press the green “Charge” button and press “card”.
Offer the card reader to the runner. They then present their card (or phone for Google Pay or Apple Pay) or insert the card if it is a PIN payment.
Once payment is confirmed, offer a receipt.
The iZettle app can either email or text an itemised receipt to the runner. Most people don't bother.
If the runner asks: HH does not get access to email address or mobile phone number and we will not send any marketing material! It is only used for the purposes of sending the receipt.
Small print: iZettle knows which phone number / email address is associated with a card, so if anyone uses that card again they don’t have to reenter the details.
The iZettle card reader is stored with the SI kit by the SI Coordinator and should arrive near fully charged. It should last 4+ hours, and can be recharged on any spare USB port.
In order to accept payments, the you need to ensure a volunteer on registration has an Android phone or iPhone and has an username and password within the HH iZettle account.
Setting up users requires someone with admin access. Currently this is the club Chair or Tim Gage. There’s no cost in setting these users up so do it as soon as you know who might be on registration.
On the day, get the device handed to the volunteers and return it with the SI kit.
