HES Volunteer Opportunities

Please contact the PTO directly at heronpto@gmail.com if you would be interested in volunteering in any way. Many hands make light work and we are appreciative of your help any time of the year. You don't have to attend our meetings or volunteer in person - there are several ways to help out even if you have limited in-person time. From assembling staff goodie bags to putting together an online sign-up to leading a committee or volunteering your time at an evening event, we welcome your one time or ongoing participation. Thank you for your support!

Below are some of our committee volunteer needs. There are opportunities to help during the school day, after school hours, or from home!

Fundraising: Spirit Night coordination with local businesses, general fundraising events. Boosterthon is our biggest event. We need volunteers to coordinate prizes on a daily basis in school.

Events: Trunk or Treat will need volunteers to set up decorations and assist at the PTO table. HollyDays and Elf Shop are HUGE! We need volunteers who are available during the school day to work the Elf Shop holiday gift shop where students can shop for family members and friends. 

Hospitality: Staff Monthly Treats, Bus Driver Appreciation Week breakfast and supply donation, Building Service Worker Appreciation Day lunch, etc.

Yearbook: Take pictures at school events, organize pictures into template for the yearbook, etc.

Volunteer Incentive:

When you attend a PTO meeting or volunteer to help at one of our PTO events each quarter, you'll be invited to eat lunch with your child at school on a designated day at the end of the marking period! Quarter 1 ends on Friday, October 30 which is our date for volunteer lunch.

Quarter 1 Qualifying Events:

• Sept 15: PTO Meeting Attendance

• Oct 1: Boosterthon (must volunteer to help out with the event, not just in the cheering section as a spectator)

• Aug/Sept/Oct: take pictures at school events for Yearbook Committee

Quarter 2: January 22

• November PTO meeting attendance in person

• Elf Shop Volunteer during the school day or set up/clean up

• HollyDays Planning Committee: set up, clean up, volunteer at event

• Trunk or Treat set up/clean up/manning PTO table (not just setting up trunk)

• Yearbook Committee: taking pictures at Q2 school events

Quarter 3: April 9

• Volunteer with PTO selling concessions at the Dance (Date TBD), set up/clean up at dance

• February PTO meeting attendance in person

• Spring Grams: organizing the sales forms and distributing items

• Yearbook Committee: taking pictures at Q3 school events

Quarter 4: June 4

• Teacher Appreciation Week (set up appreciation meals in the science lab that week, help plan and coordinate giveaways, etc.)

• Yearbook Committee: taking pictures at Q4 school events

• Yearbook: placing name stickers on yearbook list, distributing to classrooms

• 5th grade promotion planning, set up/clean up

• May PTO meeting attendance in person

Fine Print:

• Volunteers must sign in at the PTO meeting or at the event with your name and email address or use the specific Sign-Up Genius online sign up and then check in with the PTO board/committee member during the event so we have a valid count of who has volunteered.

• Parents will not be able to order from the cafeteria. Your child may order lunch from the cafeteria as usual, but the adult must bring their own lunch. Adults are welcome to bring their child a lunch or the child can also pack a lunchbox.

• Only the parent who volunteered may have lunch with their child due to space limitations. If mom volunteered, do not also bring dad and grandma with you, only mom can come to lunch.

• If you have multiple children at HES, you are welcome to eat lunch with all of them during their designated lunch times, but other children may not be pulled out of class to attend lunch with another grade. Parents will have to exit the building and wait for their next child's half hour lunch time block.

Lunch Times

• 11:00: 1st grade & PreK

• 11:30: 2nd grade & Connolly/Nelson's Kindergarten

• 12:00: 3rd grade & Thannhauser's/ Pena's Kindergarten

• 12:30: 4th grade

• 1:00: 5th grade
