Fall 2024 - Spring 2025 Snapshot

August

• 8/19 Open House 2:00 - 3:30pm Come meet your new teachers and drop off school supplies. This year's PTO officers will be in a tent outside (weather permitting) with information on how to join, committees, teacher "favorite things" lists, and prizes and ice pops for kids (while supplies last!).

September

• 9/10 PTO Meeting in the HES Media Center @ 5:00pm

• 9/17 ChickFilA Mobile Spirit Night (must order via the app)

• 9/24 Spirit Wear order deadline for free shipping to school - Order hats, tshirts, hoodies, and even custom Hollywood Elementary School jibbitz for your shoes! There are a handful of spirit days throughout the school year where students can wear their HES spirit wear or our school colors, blue and white. (Note, there is Spirit Wear available all year long as well, but you will pay shipping and products ship to your address.)

October

• 10/25 Trunk or Treat in the HES parking lot - This is a free event where community partners, families, and staff decorate their trunks and pass out candy and non candy fall themed items. Students and their families are welcome to walk around and go trick or treating! This event is held outdoors rain or shine with no rain date. 

November

• 11/4 Boosterthon - This is the PTOs largest fundraiser. For two weeks, students participate in a character building presentations based on the year's theme. There are weekly and nightly challenges with prizes for classes who raise the most money. The Boosterthon website makes it simple for family and friends both close and far to donate to our school! This year we are raising money for a sun shade for our playground and new picnic tables among other PTO initiatives. 

• 11/13 - Red Robin Spirit Day - This is an all day fundraiser where Red Robin will donate a portion of sales to the PTO.

• 11/19 PTO Meeting in the HES Media Center at 5:00pm

December

• 12/9 - 12/13 - Elf Shop: This is our in school holiday gift shop where students can shop for family members and friends. We will need volunteers to run the shop during school hours, split into morning and afternoon shifts. Parents are encouraged to talk with children ahead of time about their spending limits and write down the amount of money they have and who they are shopping for in a labeled, sealed envelope. 

• 12/12 Hollyday Festival - This is our annual (free) winter event at HES. Held in the evening, families are invited into the building for holiday themed games and crafts in the gym, children can shop for small gifts for family members and pets at the Elf Shop in the Science Lab (this also takes place during school hours), and grown ups can make a donation towards the ornament that each child created at school. Hot chocolate and concessions in the gym profit the HES PTO!

• 12/18 The Green Turtle Spirit Day - This is an ALL DAY fundraiser for the HES PTO! Make a lunch date with colleagues or family dinner date, order catering or To-Go orders and it all counts for us. We'll receive 20% of all bills that include the flyer, so make sure you have the flyer with you!

• 12/18 All gifts due for community outreach (Angel Tree) Hollywood families who could use a little extra love and support this holiday season. 

January

• January 15 Math Night at HES 5-7pm put on by Mathnasium of California, MD Come out to this free event where your child can practice their math skills through engaging games. 

• January 31 5:30 - 7:30 Imaginarium Indoor Play Place Fundraiser 

February

• February 18 PTO Meeting in the HES Media Center at 5:00pm

March

• March 27 Reading Night at HES Come out to school with your family to play Bingo to win books and visit the Book Fair!

April

• April 4 Smencil Pre-order froms due, send a kindness gram with a Smencil to your friends and staff members at HES!

• April 7 Square 1 Art orders due Order Online Here!

• April 9 Cold Stone Spirit Night in Store - 5:00pm - 7:00pm

• April 11 Smencil Orders due! Look for the paper order form to buy a Smencil (scented pencil) for a friend or staff member at HES $1 each 

• April 16 Yearbook sales end online. Order here!

May

• May 5-9: Teacher Appreciation Week: We spoil our staff with a catered lunch and gifts during the week with the help of sponsors. This year we had WaWa breakfast, Rustic Crust Bakehouse scones, Olive Garden lunch, a taco bar thanks to donations from our families, a balloon arch thanks to a Heron parent, lanyard/keychain making, a flower gift thanks to Copper Moon Florist, and more!

• May 20 Final PTO meeting of the school year, elections for next year

June

• June 6: FIELD DAY at HES! PTO provides foam for the foam pit and a frozen treat for students.

• June 10: 5th grade promotion and end of year celebration: PTO provides tshirts for all 5th grade students, cupcakes, and drinks for the ceremony. PTO also paid for the 5th graders donation to Point Lookout for their end of year celebration field trip. 

• June 12 Blue Crabs Baseball Game - Hollywood Elementary Night! TICKETS ARE FREE AND WILL BE DISTRIBUTED AT SCHOOL IN MAY/JUNE. Come out with the whole family or grab free tickets for neighbors and friends and see one of our staff members throw the first pitch and our chorus will sing the National Anthem. Heron students are welcome to participate in all of the fun on and off the field between innings! All students get 3 tickets sent home. A flyer form will be sent home if you need more tickets.
