OUR PROJECT(S):

Often in society, women aren't given the same platform as men to speak out on issues they care about and or are passionate about. There are numerous issues within our nation, state, and even in our school which draw immense anger from our girls' build members. Our project for the 2022-2023 school year was inspired by giving a platform for women to speak up on topics that need the be talked about. We released bi-monthly ZINEs which included articles, cartoons, art, and lists of topics. Topics that range from current issues around the world to personal experiences.

The ZINEs were spread throughout the school, as well as scattered around places off campus. We could tell that our ZINEs are influential and effective, by the response from our school peers, as well as conversations with the administration regarding articles written by girls' build members in the ZINEs. School-related topics in particular were immediately brought up to the administration and were resolved showing just how significant our concerns are.

We decided to open the "Walk In Closet" on campus as a permanent space to give and take clothing; this was last year's project that has continued this year to help combat the fashion industry that contributes about 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Advertising both online and on campus, we gathered hundreds of clothing items from students and staff members. The closet is open weekly during lunch and we have a line out the door the entire time! We are open to all grades and genders, providing casual, formal, and interview wear. We also share statistics about fast fashion, educating our peers about brands that are kinder to our environment.
