The name "HERd" has many different hidden messages that truly showcase what our team strives for: empowering and promoting the inclusivity of the girls and women of our Los Angeles community.
We wanted to choose a name that emphasized the idea of a group/union that walks simultaneously towards a shared goal: a herd. Our shared goal is to create a haven for the ladies in our community to know they have someone they could reach out to for help.
The word "herd" and "heard" are homophones. The word HEARD holds such great value because it lets us know that OUR VOICES will be HEARD and treated as equal to our male counterparts.
We capitalized the first three letters ("her"; the female pronoun) and Girls Build an all-girls initiative.
FACULTY ADVISOR
I have been the faculty advisor for six years, now, and have loved seeing this organization grow each year. Our girls are so dedicated and hardworking; they truly give me hope for the future.
I am proud to be working with this group of strong women!

WHY DID I JOIN HERd?: I joined HERd my freshman year of high school, and have stayed ever since. The active teamwork, cooperation, and creativity that it takes throughout the year for each of the projects we create/participate in feel really fulfilling to be a part of. Ultimately, HERd has allowed me to venture out and dip my toes into various different projects and feel as though I am doing something for my community, that is beneficial and allowing for change to take place.

WHY DID I JOIN HERd?: I joined GirlsBuild in my sophomore year because I wanted to try something new. I wanted to see what joining an all-girls group was like, what I could do with it, and how I could make my and other girls' voices heard. Now, I’m in my third and final year as a member of GirlsBuild and I can’t wait to see what we can do.
