Snow Queen
These images were made for my GCSE extended project where I looked at re-imagining the character of the Snow Queen. 3 of the illustrations were made using a mixture of pen, watercolour and digital colour the more geometric image is made with shapes/curves in Photoshop. This project was based on how people see the snow queen from the way she is traditionally portrayed and if I could depict her in a more fragile way and not scary and manipulative. The main image is the finished illustration and the others are all design development based on different artists work.
Soviet Movie Posters
These are all based on Soviet movie posters from the 1920’s when they would have been printed using traditional techniques. They were designed to capture peoples interest regardless of whether the content was related to the film.
I have kept with the simple colour palette which was originally used to make it easier and cheaper to print along with attention grabbing images. I have used collage, photo shop and lino printing, to produce these images.
Photo Manipulation
This project allowed me to experiment with collage, using different materials and layering to create different images. I wanted to construct a wall that had images added to it over time, creating layers of old adverts, graffiti and posters. To do this I used emulsion printing, stitching directly on to images, lino printing and digital collage techniques.
Examples of work from Artist Research
When researching collage, I looked at the work of Beya Kalifa, Sarah Finelli, David Hockney and Terry Gilliam. I have used various methods to create collage images in each of their styles. Photoshop, illustrations and paper collage and photography.
Chaos and Order
This work is based on the ‘Marriage of the Sea ceremony’ and its contribution to the downfall of Venice. I looked at traditional religious art and wanted to create a final piece similar to religious tapestries and iconography. I was also inspired by traditional Japanese art and Hindu religious.
Throughout my development of this work I was able to use a lot if different materials, chalks, charcoal, acrylic paints, fine liner, biro, highlighter, water colour and photoshop.
Senses 1
This abstract work was created by producing large images then extracting sections and recreating a new piece from them. I used this to design a gothic style-stained glass window with an angel at it’s center. It’s huge eye is watching over the people below it. Charcoal has been used to create a soft texture and inks and fine liner define and outline more definite shapes.
Senses 2
The sense of touch was the basis of this cartoon strip. I have sketched an outline then created the final piece on Photoshop.
During the development stages I had 2 storyboards they developed ‘The Twins’. I initially used photos as a guide then illustrated over the top of them creating a more comic style illustration.
