I created these images as gifts for people. The animals in burrows were Christmas gifts tailored to different people with different animals, plants and time period. The image of the giant spider in the forest has a girl in it who the gift was made for. I tried to do my version of a Tim Burton style in this scene. These were made using biro, fineliners and watercolour.
These illustrations of animals are mostly made for birthday cards. This is just something I enjoy doing rather than buying cards as it gives me a little project to do as well as making something to give away. The dog in the cup was for my sisters sixteenth and the rhinos were for Father’s Day. These were made using either biro, water colour and some fine liner and highlighter. I have also used a water colour tool on photoshop on the image of the wolf.
I call this section "Twisted" because they are a bit weird or creepy. I do most of this work in biro as I think I makes the image more dark and sharp with scratchy lines and layered shading. The image on the right depicts a ring master, kind of like a fun land animatronic or possessed doll, It is definitely something creepy to have at a circus or fun fair? I imagine it luring children like the Pied Piper with candy floss and magic tricks. Other illustrations shown on the left are similar character ideas.
I like the idea that every character has a story to tell and I think folklore and fairy tales are the best kinds of stories. These drawings try to show of the idea of combining them together with more modern styles of drawing. Using photo shop to colour and shade these images means I can recreate lots of different versions from one original. I have used highlighter because the colours can be lighter but vibrant at the same time.
The life drawings I have done are mostly pencil a some charcoal [also a bit of ink and biro]. They are all on one or two subjects but using the different materials, different angles and the occasional background person makes all these images different and unique. I have only recently been introduced to life drawing and have tried to look for the less obvious views to base my work on.
This is a collection of dress and garment designs I would like to develop. They are loosely based on a dress I saw in a magazine. I studied textiles at school but found I was more interested in designing clothes than actually making them. I like to look at fashion and see how I can develop designs and I am inspired by the glamorous clothes fashion of the 20’s and 30’s, something you would wear to a champagne party. Using biro and fine liner in these images means I can give texture and movement to the garments.
Children’s books, detective novels and Disney characters are the starting point for many of the illustrations I like to create. I like to use biro a lot as I like the sketchiness of the results. I like using fine liners/photoshop for softer lines and to create some more animated characters like 1940 cartoons.
