From there we turned back and made our way into the ruins of the Crusader building. Built sometime between 1140 and 1160, this building was a fortified farmhouse which served to protect over both the neighbouring lands and the old Roman road that passed by, connecting Emmaus and Latrun (the Toron des Chevaliers castle) with the capital of Jerusalem.

We descended from the northern half of the building, walking on the floor of the upper floor which is now covered in grasses and wildflowers. Admiring the strong architecture, with its arched windows and doors and large vaulted rooms, we made our way to the southern half of the building, skirting the courtyard down below.

With that we decided that it was time to leave our pleasant little birding spot and continue on, with hopes of more birds of prey sightings. As we left the park we indeed saw another bird of prey, a steppe buzzard soaring far, far away to the east. We found a trail to take us eastward, as we were hoping to reach the nearby Castel, even though it was getting late in the day. The trail was nice and we saw plenty of birds and a handful of knapweed fritillary butterflies flying about.

Castel was closed for the day and so we wandered on in search for food, keeping a constant eye out for birds of prey in the skies. Adam spotted a few tiny black dots in the sea of blue, and with his 40x optical zoom we were able to identify them as another steppe buzzard and a booted eagle.

Wellington Phoenix General Manager David Dome, says that while the home kit drew on the geography of Mount Victoria which overlooks Wellington Harbour, the away kit instead focusses on the harbour itself.

The legend tells of both taniwha living in a lake, which they desperately wanted to break free of to enter the nearby ocean. While Ngake escaped Wellington harbour using brute force to burst through the harbour mouth, Whataitai took a different approach and became stranded; its wairua (spirit) leaving its body to fly to the top of Matairangi (Mount Victoria) in the shape of a giant, Phoenix-like bird.

You could say it simply combines the best of a rolled cuff and a plain hem, making a new/interesting interaction between a shoe and the pant. Depending on how high the crop is (I like it higher than traditional trousers), I think it looks great with low profile footwear (loafers) and chunkier stuff (derbies and wallabies).

She definitely has that prep/ivy look down, but the use of the raw hems prevents it from being too costume-y. Like with the other inspiration pictures before it, it works to make the look edgier, contemporary, and a bit more lived in. And again, you can see how well it interacts with loafers and chunky shoes.

Despite having raw hem jeans as the main source of inspiration, he first pair of pants that I cut were these Uniqlo pleated chinos (which conveniently had a high waist). They were nice and cheap (having a bit of stretch) but the taper was too strong, the color a bit plain, and the length too short to wear them properly with tailoring; the cuff I had when I wore them was too weird. As a result, they were pushed back into the closet; I ended up wearing all my other chinos except this one.

After my success with my chinos, I decided to finally apply it to denim. You guys remember the 501CTs right? My first pair of selvedge? Well after I got my LVC 1878s, the second hand LVC 1945s, and Thee Teenaged, I never really the 501CTs anymore. They just never fit me right, being too roomy in the thigh and yet with a sharp taper; like those Uniqlo chinos, I almost gave them away.

I eventually did them to a black pair of Levis I thrifted a long time ago. With that dark color, the badass/edgy connotations are amplified. Perfect for my cheap black chelseas (that I want to upgrade with R.M Williams) or simply with black penny loafers for a punky take on prep.

Abdalla Ali Hemed attacked and raped one of his victims less than 24 hours after being granted bail in Aberdeen. Hemed, 44, a Somalian refugee, was found guilty of the attacks, which happened between 2004 and 2006. Judge Lord Bracadale told him, at the High Court in Glasgow, that he posed a danger to women. He had been allowed to stay in Scotland on indefinite leave after fleeing from the military regime in Somalia. However, after arriving in Aberdeen, he carried out the sexual attacks over three years before he was caught. In his first attack, Hemed struck along with an unknown gang of men, and attacked a woman at a flat in Great Northern Road on 23 and 24 July, 2004. Held knifeHemed removed her clothing, lay on top of her while she was unconscious, then raped her when she regained consciousness. He had been granted bail at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on 5 August, 2003. On 2 August, 2006, Hemed attacked and raped another woman in a flat in Canal Place after giving her drugs. He held a knife against her throat and held her down during the attack. He had been granted bail the day before. On 4 December, 2006, Hemed carried out another sex attack on a woman in his flat in Canal Street. He seized hold of her, pinned her against a wall and held her captive in his flat. He then chased her with the knife with intent to rape her. Hemed was still on the 1 August bail order at the time. Praised braveryLess than a week later - on 12 December - he carried out another sex attack at knifepoint in his flat. He pulled a knife on a fourth victim and demanded that she strip off her clothing, then he pushed her repeatedly and grabbed her. As the woman broke free and tried to run away, Hemed chased her with the knife with the intention of raping her. Hemed was also found guilty of breaching the peace at Northsea Court in Aberdeen on 27 September, 2007. He tried to leave a flat with a knife and told police officers that he was on his way to a nearby flat to kill the person who lived there. Hemed was caught after one of his victims went to the police and reported what he had done. Det Insp Andy Imray, of Grampian Police, said: "It was very brave indeed for the victim to come forward. It was obviously a very difficult thing to have to relive in front of strangers."

Introduction:  Since its debut recognition in 1981, human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome has affected over 77 million people and has resulted in premature cessation of 35.4 million lives worldwide. Commonly, human immunodeficiency virus is transmitted by sexual contact across mucosal surfaces, by sharing of injecting equipment, through contaminated blood transfusions, and by maternal-infant exposure. Nevertheless, accidental transmission incidences involving family members are rare but possible.

Case presentation:  A 78-year-old woman of African descent from Mtwara Region south of Tanzania was referred to us for further evaluation and treatment. She is 30 years postmenopausal and has a 35-year history of hypertension. Her last attendance to our institute was 11 months prior the index visit and she tested negative for human immunodeficiency virus. She came with complaints of weight loss, recurrent fevers, and cough. Her hematological tests revealed leukopenia with lymphocytosis, together with a normocytic normochromic anemia. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for human immunodeficiency virus was positive, and she had a CD4 count of 177 cells/L. We went back to history taking to identify the potential source of infection. We were informed that for the past 6 months, the 78-year-old lady has been living with her unwell 24-year-old granddaughter who has been divorced. The granddaughter had a history of recurrent fevers, significant weight loss, and a suppurative skin condition. As a way to show love and care, the old lady was puncturing the suppurative lesions with bare hands; then she would suck them to clear away the discharge. We requested to see the young lady, and she tested positive for human immunodeficiency virus. Both were started on tenofovir/lamivudine/dolutegravir combination plus cotrimoxazole 960 mg. The family was in total disarray following these findings. The patient was discharged through infectious diseases department and died of Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia 12 weeks later.

Conclusions:  Certain sociocultural norms that are believed to express love, care, and togetherness in developing rural communities, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa, have a potential of spreading human immunodeficiency virus, thus warranting prompt transformation.

Our house has a concrete patio (I'd say about 12' x 10') in the back that is very slightly angled in so that rainfall can cause water to collect where the patio meets the back wall of the house. What are my short-term and long-term options for addressing this?

The only thing I could think of would be to elevate/resurface the patio near the house to redirect the water away from it. I'm a beginner DIY'er and am not sure how exhaustive of a procedure that would be.

Longer term, you need to fix the problem by directing water away from the house. Is there cracking where the patio meets the house? That would indicate subsidence at that side of the patio, at which point I would definitely call in the professionals.

The next question is how much of a slope there is, and how much you would need to build up the house side of the patio. A thin layer of concrete is easy to apply; you just need to get it thick enough that it won't flow so much that it levels itself out before setting. Getting it looking good is more difficult, but can be done with care, but again you're balancing time to do that versus the concrete setting as you're working with it. If this is someplace that people will use a lot, so you want it to look good, you might still want to pay someone to do it. 152ee80cbc
