The family of Famara's landlord have come to meet with their loved one and bring him home for support. Although there was no income raised to fund the landlord's health needs further, Famara reported the family was very kind and did not protest his legal agreement with the landlord to purchase the land in time.
Donations are still open, and the landlord is still living and in need, so any funds raised in the short term will be immediately transferred for the landlord's medical use and deducted from the remaining balance of $5000.
The landlord has approached Famara with a desperate request for more funds. He will require surgery and hoped for more money, however, our fundraiser is currently tapped after the transfer of the $500 down payment. Although the landlord has not always been kind to Famara and his family, Famara is a kind man who feels for anyone's misfortune and would like to help. Unfortunately, we have no other active sources of income adding to the fundraiser outside of our hopes for exposure at the multi-cultural night.
I will be reaching out to Gambian social organizations and local Gambian charities who support funding rural medical clinics to see if they have any resources, grants, or other leads.
If you are willing, please consider re-posting our request for the fundraiser to see if there is anyone else in your circle willing or able to contribute.
Thank you for your consideration!
Today I was approved to host a table at my local elementary school's multicultural night. I will be acting as a go-between to help Famara virtually host the event, actually! I will be presenting recordings he has created showing off his village and answering questions about life in Gambia. We will be presenting next to representatives from a local Gambian expat organization. This will be the first big event where we hope to bring education and awareness about the struggle for reliable water in rural Gambia.
If we are lucky, maybe we can generate some donations for Famara and his village as well!
Last night, there was an unexpected development. Famara's landlord has encountered health problems. Initially only willing to sell to Famara for an inflated price, in his eagerness for liquid assets to fund medical needs, the landlord has agreed to a $500 discount on the purchase price if Famara would make a $500 down payment. As a part of their discussions, a lawyer oversaw negotiations and drew up a contract that guarantees Famara the right to purchase the land in installments, even in the case of the landlord's passing. The down payment has been processed and Famara is now guaranteed transfer of the ownership documents to his custody once the new land price goal of $5000 is met!
