Laminar takes feature requests for X-Plane12: see article below
concept artist "picaiolo" created this brand renewal, a design that reflects x-plane's new quality.
The Concept comes as ultra-modern GUI-surface combining all x-plane relevant tools and flight servers under one hood. This hub system is not only designed as central access point but sets a milestone of how platforms merge. The "hub" means play, chat, exchange, learn, upload, connect, build, these are the spokes.
That includes Interface redesign for all the tools. Plane maker and friends undergo hard facelift works like the actual sim itself, turning X-Plane12 into an excellent user experience from preloading to quitting.
"i wanted to respect laminar's successful history and transform its ipod-like slider style of version11 into something more innovative. something that is truly innovative in its core, something that brings it from underdog to pole position among all platforms.
A rather flat design, using ATC-screen colours known from real life create a very aviation specific brand refresher.
The new logo follows the original design, but gets an airport's runway system synonym matching the modern users' taste and giving the x a very dominant dynamic meaning.
It also tells that x-plane now proves its leading presence along all operating system platforms through a mainstreamed touching design, that looks and runs the same on all platforms.wiping and scrolling included. The logo comes in 3 versions, and it will always keep the 2-runway-X in the circle. The 3 versions specify x-plane's reputation as either X-Plane for new customers,
XP12 for a code-like flashbrand and XPL for community internal use. The challenge was obviously sticking to the coolness of the shortest logo variant but still allow new customers to understand what product this actually is."
The interaction design is done smart, short, and with real-life logic of the flight process. It gets anyone in no time to where wannabe, can be flight, can be setups, can be creative works or get uplinked to a flight server.
A control surface that connects not only platforms, but builds the one center lobby for any type of interaction with any type of laminar's elements, even tools like airplane maker would start from here.
Main design focus is the User Experience, Modularity, Connectivity and Extendability.
Still it has a handy design, familiar to XP11-users and easy adaptable to all operating systems, including their hardware like pads or pc's, clickable, swipable, scrollable, zoomable.
the picture does not show these dynamcis yet and does not explain the smart functionalities and their connectivity.
The document is under work, having in mind that laminar will not even consider such new approaches, but concepting is pure fun.
Aiming a next generation interface that reflects the flight preperation process like in real life. Particular new segments are Performance (W&B, CG, NAV, Fuel Planning, ALTN, etc.), Weather, Maintenance.
