Welcome to the webpage of the Heinsbroek lab at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)! We are interested in the regulation of motivated behavior by distinct circuits in the ventral basal ganglia. Our current main research focuses on the contributions of basal ganglia circuits to relapse using rodent models of opioid use disorder. In addition, we are actively researching novel pharmacological treatments for preventing relapse based on plasticity-promoting psychedelics-derived compounds.
