The Buffalo Bills Foundation is a private organization that provides financial support for community organizations and NFL/Buffalo Bills team initiatives, such as Huddle for Hunger and Inspire Change. The foundation's efforts focus on addressing child hunger, increasing access to nutritious food for families, and supporting healthy eating in the Western New York region."
Volunteer opportunities with the Buffalo Bills Foundation include helping with their annual 50/50 raffle or volunteering at one of their affiliated community events.
Monetary donations can be made directly to the Foundation with some restrictions, or by participating in their 50/50 raffle. Nonfinancial donations can be made through events such as a Huddle for Hunger Community Food Drive.
The Providence Farm Collective is the result of as a three year pilot program called the "Somali Bantu Community Farm" that was developed to address inequities in farmland and fresh food access specifically among refugees, immigrants, Black, Indigenous, and people of color. They currently employ 239 farmers across 29 farms and 11,000 people have accessed their produce since 2017.
They accept one time or recurring monetary donations, as well as Amazon/Home Depot wishlist gifts.
Between May and November, the collective offers volunteer opportunities at their Orchard Park farm or the farmers market in Buffalo. You can volunteer on a one time basis, multiple times, in a group, or individually!
Massachusetts Avenue Project is a nonprofit "urban farm" located on Buffalo's West Side. Established in 1992, this collective provides training on sustainable urban agriculture, social enterprise development, organizing and advocacy, and food systems development and employment to low income youth.
They are currently accepting monetary donations that go towards repairing their cold storage facility, as well as donations in the form food scraps! You can also support this nonprofit by shopping at one of their markets or renting their kitchen for an event.
Volunteer days at their farm and farmhouse are listed annually on their website. You can also sign up for weekly shifts with their mobile market or apply for a seasonal assignment if interested in a recurring commitment.
Sandy Hook Promise is a nonprofit developed following the devastating events at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Loved ones of those lost founded this organization to "advance a holistic policy platform that promotes gun safety, youth mental health, and violence prevention education" on national, state, and local levels.

One of the most difficult parts of improving longterm health equity is at the governmental level. Policy changes and legislative efforts take a long time, but are so important for improving health equity in the long term! You can help to make these changes happen by showing your support for various proposals. Showing your support can be as easy as signing a petition yourself or recruiting others to join these efforts.
