Welcome to TOT: Teaching Online Training! What is online learning? How do we make online learning effective? Is online pedagogy different than f2f pedagogy? This training serves to explore the answers to these questions by looking at the theories and pedagogues of online learning and how they’re practically applied in online classrooms. We’ll focus on best practices and look at different kinds of technologies for e-learning and collaboration.
Providing a brief tour of your online training site is valuable for students to understand where to find information within your course site. If you create your own course tour recording, it might be valuable to note that dates and deadlines in the tour might be older or different (as each semester is different) but the week-at-a-glance has the same structure. We encourage you to review our brief video highlighting the different pages and sections of this training site.
Let’s start this training with the end in mind! Since this training isn't exhaustive, we will focus on providing you with simple, practical, and pedagogically based tips on how to build and navigate teaching your online course. Your goal will be to create an Overview page and interactive and engaging Laulima Lesson as well as meet with me about this project. Feel free to review two examples that make up the final project for this training: Example 1 and Example 2. In this module, you will get acquainted with the pedagogical building blocks of your end-goal, which is to teach an online course.
This training is organized into seven modules. Each successive module builds on previous modules, so it is important to keep up with them and complete them in order. Online learning and teaching is a very broad category that encompasses a wide range of theories, teaching strategies, tools, and activities. No training or course could possibly do the entire range of possibilities justice. In fact, this training only scratches the surface! That said, this training serves as a general overview of e-learning and teaching and focuses on providing you with a basic foundation in online teaching. Within each of the site's modules, you will be tasked to read or watch resources pertaining to the theme of each module. After, you will be tasked with completely an activity, based on the module theme and readings.
