This was my first big bump in the way of finishing Inktober. As I predicted I had a very busy Friday at work. At night I did nothing with the prompt #7 and, instead focused on trying to make progress on #1 Gargoyle, which, I did. A little. But, as I had not predicted the "small amount" of work that I thought I could easily finish at home in the weekend, actually took me pretty much all saturday to complete. It was almost midnight when I started collecting references for the drawing, so it was late and I decided to begin the sketch in the next day even if it meant to be late
Long story short I posted the image bellow. Just a bit later than I though. One week later, preciselly...
#Inktober 2022, Day 7: Trip
By then I was no more in a work break and the week was very eventfull. So I pretty much did almost nothing after the first sketches on the sunday, october eight.
But the concept for this one was clear from the begining: a girl dancing at a rave to a psychedelic background. The thing was how to do it in black and white. So, first I got some references for the model dancing with bodypainting.
Then I needed a psychedelic black and white background, and, for this, I found the internet quite disappointing. Some where too symmetric, some too busy, some had elements but not the overall vibe. So, I would have to compose, somehow. Since time was inexistent I actually gave up for a couple of days.
Came saturday and I used NC to create a few more backgrounds. This worked quite weall and resulted in some of the best patterns
When designing the background I also decided not to use any vectorial tool, to actually improve my hand eye coordination using the Intuos. Results could be better, but was still a nice exercise.
I also think layering worked better for me this time. The drawing used ten layers, although some of the were merged from a higher number. In the right I united in a single image some of the elements from the dancer and the final touches, in the left some of the background to show.
In the end I liked the result and it gave me a incentive to keep going. I first thought about begining with #11 Eagle which I had made a few sketches for. But I decided to work on the prompt of the day #14 - Empty, after all, a big part of the fun is to see what others are doing at the same time you are. So... let´s do #14 - Empty. Should be easy.
