NOTE:
Please do take into consideration that our Hawaii Referees must endure numerous time requirements/commitments and expenses to maintain their certification. The highest-rated referees in Hawaii spend upwards of at least $1000 annually (not including lost wages for mainland trips of 3-12 days, which totals to more than $4000 on average) just to maintain their certification(s). Please also take into consideration that all referees must also sacrifice their time after work and weekends/holidays away from their family/friends and their off time reserved for relaxation to referee/officiate your matches. Many referees might have to leave work early or take vacation/sick hours causing negative and possibly retaliatory actions to referee your matches.
Finally, in the past (and currently), Hawaii clients, leagues, and associations have refused to pay referees according to US standards in comparable cities which have contributed to the shortage of referees here on our islands. Hawaii is unfortunately a part of a group of states who compensate their volleyball referees the lowest. High school leagues in other states are compensated around $75-$175 per match. In a comparable cost of living city like New York City, for example, their Public/Government High School leagues compensate their Volleyball Referees $96 per match at two matches per day at minimum totaling to $192 for two high school matches (Source: http://www.psal.org/articles/article-detail.aspx#28635). Private Schools in comparable cities pay around $150 per high school varsity match. Local College rates vary from $75-$500+ per match depending on assignment (Referee, Line Judge or Scorer) and conference.
Please keep the above-mentioned in mind when viewing our pricing/quotes. Mahalo.
Sample Crew Types:
PROFESSIONAL/INTERNATIONAL-STYLE FULL CREW:
(Referee Delegate/Manager, R1, R2, LJ1, LJ2, LJ3, LJ4, S, AS + Reserve Referee & LJ + Replay Official)
Recommended for:
Any Final/Championship Matches and Playoff Matches
Any FIVB or International Competition
Open Level Competition
NCAA Men
Pros: All areas covered (except ball retrievers and floor moppers, auxiliary scoreboard operator). Professional presence/image, the more "eyes" the more angles are covered. Match Jury member is present for extreme situations and a higher authority.
Cons: More people = more money
"AMERICAN-STYLE" FULL CREW (R1, R2, LJ1, LJ2, S, AS)
Recommended for:
Lesser Profile matches
High School Matches
Lower level FIVB/International/
NCAA Women (standard)
Pros: Less Costs than International Full-crew, but maintains professional appearance
Cons: Less eyes and angles covered. Major flaw is that right side cross court attacks are not covered and there is more missed calls due to less presence, multi-tasking and the higher potential of being screened by players. No Referee Supervision (R1 Takes responsibility). If an official gets injured or ill or not performing, there will not be a replacement available. There is no referee supervision/management, R1 functions as crew-chief.
"AMERICAN-STYLE" ECONOMICAL (R1, R2)
Recommended for:
lower budget leagues/competition that do not mind non-professional line judges and scorers.
Lower Level Multi-court, multi-facility and/or Multi-day competition
High School - Junior Varsity
Pros: Costs, two referees remain.
Cons: All cons from "American-Style Full Crew" plus an increased possibility of more missed calls, especially for touch and line calls. Most line decisions dependent on non-professional Line Judges which may have a bias. Likeliness of scoring and libero tracking errors and missed illegal substitutions/replacements. Volunteers needed.
"AMERICAN-STYLE" SUPER-ECONOMICAL (R1 ONLY)
Recommended for:
lowest budget leagues/competition that do not mind non-professional R2, line judges and scorers.
Lowest level of competition
Intermediate school and below competition
Pros: Lowest possible costs
Cons: All cons from all "American-Styles" with only one truly neutral angle and perspective. R1 will need to be more attentive yet multi-task as well. Many missed calls. Volunteers need to fulfill duties
