Haven is designed as a four-day learning program. Families have the flexibility to choose a schedule that best supports their child's needs.
Students are welcome to attend all four days for the full learning experience, while also having the option for more flexible schedule when needed. This allows families to balance academics with other opportunities, while still benefiting from a structured, supportive learning environment.
Our goal is to create a safe, supportive space where children can slow down, build confidence, and fall in love with learning again.
Small group, hands-on enrichment where children continue to rediscover the joy of learning beyond the school day.
Schedule:
Monday-Thursday, 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Students benefit from:
Engaging, creative activities that extend learning from the core program.
Extended support and guidance to reinforce skills.
Exploration through art, science experiments, and outdoor projects.
Small group attention (max 4 students)
Our goal in this pilot program is to create a small, supportive space where children can explore art, coding, science experiments, and book club activities in a hands-on, intentional way - continuing to build confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning.
Before the hum of learning begins, we start our day exactly where it matters most: with one another. Our morning connection is the heartbeat of the pod—a dedicated time to transition from home to school and center our minds for the day ahead.
Through guided discussions, collaborative games, and intentional journaling, we do more than just "check in." We practice the essential skills of listening with empathy and speaking with courage. This is where students learn that their voice matters and that they are part of a team that supports them.
We dive into "Big Questions" that spark critical thinking and help students explore their own values. Whether we are debating a fun "would you rather" scenario or reflecting on a character trait like perseverance, these moments foster:
Confident Communication: Learning to articulate ideas clearly.
Critical Thinking: Looking at problems from new perspectives.
Emotional Intelligence: Recognizing their own growth and supporting their peers.
By the time we move into our personalized learning block, every student feels seen, heard, and ready to take on the challenges of the day with a focused and positive mindset.
After our morning connection, students transition into their personalized learning block. Using the i-Ready placement results, each student—with the guidance of their parents and my support—embarks on a learning path tailored specifically to them. This ensures your child isn't bored by what they already know or overwhelmed by what they haven’t mastered yet; they are always working at their perfect individual level. During this time, students will work on Reading, Writing, Math, and Grammar.
While students build independence on their Chromebooks, they are never alone. I am right there to turn "I can't do this" into "I can't do this yet." Whether it’s a tricky math concept or a challenging writing prompt, I provide the one-on-one encouragement and clarity they need to keep moving forward with confidence.
Once we wrap up our focused study, it’s time to shift gears! We take a 30-minute break to head outside (weather permitting) to move our bodies, breathe in some fresh air, and enjoy a healthy snack.
This isn't just a "break"—it’s a vital time for students to reset their focus, socialize with peers, and recharge for the collaborative projects ahead. To keep our energy levels steady and our minds sharp, we ask that parents send a wholesome, nutritious snack with their student each day.
We encourage "brain foods" that provide lasting energy rather than a quick sugar spike. Please save the candy and chips for home and consider these nutritious options:
Protein & Healthy Fats: String cheese, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt cups, or a handful of nuts.
Fresh Produce: Apple slices, grapes, carrot sticks with hummus, or berries.
Whole Grains: Whole-grain crackers, rice cakes, or a small granola bar (low sugar).
A quick, healthy refuel ensures every student is ready to dive into our afternoon "Collaborate" session with enthusiasm and a clear head!
After fueling up and finding our second wind outdoors, we shift our focus from individual mastery to the power of the group. This is the heart of our day at Haven Learning—where the Chromebooks are tucked away, and our hands and minds get to work together.
During this dedicated time, students dive into collaborative projects, hands-on experiments, and Socratic discussions. Whether we are building a bridge out of recycled materials, debating a historical event, or solving a real-world engineering challenge, the goal is the same: to move from "me" to "we."
Using the rich, project-based curriculum, I facilitate an environment where your child learns to:
Communicate ideas clearly and listen with empathy.
Problem-solve through trial, error, and shared grit.
Lead with kindness and follow with respect.
It’s messy, it’s loud, and it’s where the "book knowledge" from the morning comes to life. By the time the session ends, students aren't just exhausted—they’re inspired by what they’ve created alongside their peers.
After the high energy of our Discovery Lab, it’s time to pause and nourish our bodies. At Haven Learning, lunch is more than just a meal—it’s a chance to slow down, practice mindful eating, and enjoy the company of friends.
Whenever the weather allows, we take our lunch outdoors! Stepping away from the learning space to breathe in the fresh air and feel the sun helps clear the mental cobwebs from the morning’s hard work. If the clouds roll in, we gather around our community table for a relaxed, "family-style" atmosphere indoors.
Because our afternoons are dedicated to our most creative projects, having a steady supply of energy is key. We ask that parents provide a satisfying, balanced lunch that avoids the "afternoon slump" caused by heavy processed sugars.
To keep those young minds sharp for our final block of the day, consider packing a mix of these "power foods":
Protein for Focus: Sliced turkey or ham roll-ups, tuna salad, chickpeas, or a hearty thermos of bean soup.
Complex Carbs for Stamina: Whole-grain wraps, quinoa salad, brown rice, or whole-wheat pasta.
Healthy Fats for Brain Power: Avocado slices, olives, or a bit of dark chocolate as a small treat.
Hydration: Please ensure your student has a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.
This is a screen-free "talk-story" time where students share jokes, discuss their latest breakthroughs, or simply enjoy a quiet moment of downtime. By the time we pack up our lunch kits, every student is refreshed, recharged, and ready to unleash their creativity!
To wrap up our day at Haven Learning, we move into our most imaginative block. After a morning of mastery and a midday of collaboration, students finally get to answer the question: "What can I build with what I know?"
This is the time for independent projects and creative exploration. While our morning "Discovery Lab" is team-based, this session is deeply personal. Each student chooses a "Create" project that sparks their curiosity—whether that’s coding an original video game, drafting a short story, sketching a blueprint, or building a complex physical model.
In a world full of screens, we emphasize the shift from consuming content to creating it. During this hour, the Chromebook becomes a tool—much like a paintbrush or a hammer—to help them architect their own ideas. This is where "grit" meets "imagination." I am there to provide the resources, the technical troubleshooting, and the enthusiastic "Tell me more about this!" that keeps their momentum going.
We often end this block by sharing our progress. It isn’t about perfection; it’s about the process. Seeing a student’s face light up as they explain a project they designed from scratch is the highlight of my day—and it’s the best way for them to head home: feeling capable, creative, and proud.
As our afternoon of creating comes to a close, we gather one last time to transition from our learning community back to our families. This isn’t just a "pack up and go" moment; it’s a vital time for reflection and gratitude. Celebrating the Wins We circle up to share our "highs" and "lows" from the day. Whether a student finally mastered a long-division concept that’s been a struggle, or another successfully led a team during our Discovery Lab, we take a moment to narrate those victories out loud. This builds a culture of encouragement where students learn to cheer for one another’s growth as much as their own.
Before we head out the door, we take a minute to reconnect with our "why." We reflect on our shared values—grit, kindness, and curiosity—and how we saw those traits in action today. This ensures that when your child walks out of Haven Learning, they aren't just carrying a backpack; they’re carrying a sense of purpose and accomplishment.
With workspaces tidied and minds full of new ideas, we say our goodbyes. Your student heads home not just exhausted from a busy day, but inspired to tell you all about what they discovered, built, and mastered. We can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow!
