Welcome to ECOSOC

What is ECOSOC?

The Economic and Social Council is at the heart of the United Nations system to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental. It is the central platform for fostering debate and innovative thinking, forging consensus on ways forward, and coordinating efforts to achieve internationally agreed goals. It is also responsible for the follow-up to major UN conferences and summits.

The topic under discussion for ECOSOC this year is:

“Striving to reduce malnutrition and its social implications, whilst ensuring future global food security for all nations.”

 ECOSOC Under-Secretaries message:

Dear Delegate,

It is an honor to have you participate in the Fourth Annual HASTMUN here at Haileybury Astana School, which will take place on April 13th-14th. This is a study guide for the Economic and Social Council, that will help you on your research journey on the given topic.

We recognize that some of you may be already experienced in the procedures of the House, whilst others not so much, which is why the delegate handbook is included with everything you need to know about the type of Model United Nations we run here at Haileybury. Please see the brief Research Guide attached below to help commence your research.

We as part of the secretariat and the chair team wish you the best of luck in the upcoming conference. Remember that the more you research and practice, the more prepared you will be, and in a debate environment such as this, preparation is key to succeeding. It can get overwhelming with the terminology and the procedures but in the end, the experience of MUN is unforgettable, as it cultivates a rich environment of teamwork and bonding through the mix of moderated and unmoderated caucuses.
