About this Game
The Illusionist (2024): this game was originally made for my final project of my first year at Brighton MET College, receiving a Distinction grade - I have since returned to it and am actively developing it further. This is a solo project originally developed in Unity, but was ported to Godot 4.2 mid-development. The original demo of this game was my first ever 'complete' solo game project released under the Rook Studios name, and I am proud of the result and hope to potentially return to this idea in the future, remaking and rebuilding things to be more polished and constructed.
Character Designs
Player Character - Designed based on game's theme of theatre, stage shows, and illusions - also a play on the use of rabbits in magic shows. A lot of platformers use animal mascots, so this seemed a natural choice.
player character concepts
Ghost Enemy - simple ghost enemy, the first one the player will encounter. Simple but charming design, inspired by other ghost enemies like the Boos from Mario series.
ghost enemy concepts - may use different types in future
Environmental Design
Theatre Exterior - the outside of the theatre that the game revolves around - seen in the first level which takes place outside. Designed with scale and silhouette in mind, outside level takes place at night so the building's details would not be as clear. Textures are simple but fit the aesthetic of the game.
theatre design concepts
3D Assets - used for environmental set pieces, to flesh out the level for the player to explore. Low-poly, cartoonishly textured models make for a distinct style, as does the fact that all characters, enemies, and interactable objects are 2D billboard sprites, while all static environment assets are 3D models, which lends itself to creating a unique aesthetic.
