About this Game
Bubbles & Bottles (2025): This project was made over 5 days (Jan 20-24th) for Brighton MET's participation of Global Game Jam 2025, the theme of which was 'Bubble'. This is a solo project developed in Godot 4.3. This game concept was very well received by industry and judges of the Jam, and was nominated for Best Overall Game, Best Technical Design, and Industry Favourite, winning the second and third categories. I am actively developing this game further, and hope to create more content for it.
Character Designs
Player Character - As the player would be controlling a bubble throughout the game, I added a small scuba diver to go inside it - this allowed for better visual clarity and gave a bit more connection between the player and what/who they are controlling. I used a cartoony, exaggerated art style for this game as my traditional art and animation skills are more limited compared to some developers and teams, however I leant into this limitation by designing all assets in this way to be more stylised.
First Enemy Designs - keeping with the aquatic theme, decided to use various sea creatures as hazards for the player to navigate around. The jellyfish and electric eel were the first two I created, and have the simplest behaviour in-game.
More Enemies - I created more enemies with more advanced in-game behaviour, ending up with a decent cast of designs that I am happy with.
Environment and Objects - I created my own tilemap to build the game's levels, which streamlined the process a lot. The atlas features both a light and dark variant of each tile, used for collision tiles and backgrounds, and can be adjusted in-engine to be different colours to give each level a slightly different look and feel.
I also added some foliage and rocks to build up the environment and, in the case of the rocks, give the player another hazard to avoid. I also added some general environmental objects to be placed throughout the levels
