Travel information

Parking

There are three public pay-and-display car parks in Romsey suitable for leisure visitors. Sunday worshippers may park in roads near the Abbey with fewer restrictions.

For the first two, follow the road to the town centre left around a sharp corner. For the first one, take the second exit at the mini-roundabout signposted towards the bus station; the car park is on the right. For the second, take the first exit at this mini-roundabout and follow signposts very shortly afterwards to the car park in Newton Lane. To reach the Abbey on foot, follow signs to the town square and then north towards Stockbridge, turning left into Church Lane opposite the Post Office.

The third car park is closer to the Abbey, although slightly more tucked away. Follow directions towards Winchester as far as the roundabout in front of the Plaza theatre, where you need to turn left and then right into Alma Road at the traffic lights. Turn left at the next set of traffic lights and, although the road markings bear right, carry on, then turn right into the Lortemore Place car park. To reach the Abbey, head west into Abbey Walk and turn left, then cross into Church Lane, where the Abbey will be facing you.

Arriving by train

Romsey enjoys direct train services from Cardiff, Bristol, Bath, Portsmouth, Southampton Central and Southampton Airport Parkway (both of the latter are served by trains from London Waterloo).

Romsey Abbey is a ten minute walk away from the station, Cross the road at the bottom of Station Approach, walk along Station Road, then bear right into Lortemore Place and carry on through Abbey Walk, as above.

General info

All music will be provided on the day. You will be expected to have learnt music made available in advance of the visit. No time in the rehearsal will be given to note-bashing this music. We will spend more time looking at music introduced on the day. We regret that copyright does not always allow us to make all music available beforehand.

Cassocks and surplices will be provided on the day (if you are new, please send your approx height and build to Elizabeth at secretary@harsnettchoir.org).

Please wear quiet black shoes and black socks/tights as these might show under your cassock.

We do limit the number of people we can take to fit the stalls and maintain balance between the parts. Places are assigned on a first come first served basis. You will be informed promptly if you have a space. Please do not arrange non-refundable travel or accommodation until after this time. If you are unsure or need to know immediately, please contact Ed at md@harsnettchoir.org

We will not be arranging group accommodation for this visit.

Online resources

Where available, online versions of sheet music are linked from the 'music' section above. Where available videos recordings are provided below. Ed will also send a Spotify playlist to those on the visit's WhatsApp group.

Please bear in mind that the sheet music and recordings linked from here may subtly differ to our own version on the day.

If you have any questions, please contact Ed at md@harsnettchoir.org
