Teacher Resources
During study hall time, here are options you can use to encourage reading this week.
Read-aloud. I read aloud to my students the first chapter of a book of their choice every Friday and they have really loved it. Don't just sit behind your desk, walk around and read! You could do a different book every day or the same one for the week. Let your students have a choice on what you are reading. World Read Aloud Day Resources
Genre Personality Survey - Some students say they don't like to read, but I always tell them that they haven't found the right book yet. Give your students this quick personality survey to show them books that they might enjoy. Ones that are interested you can send to the library with their results and I can help them find a book. If you would like to do this survey with your students, e-mail and I'll make you copies.
Silent Reading - This will only work if the students have something that they want to read. This should not ever be treated as a punishment. If you are making your students sit and read in silence because they got in trouble, then this is probably a factor of why they don't like reading. (Just being honest.)
Picture books for Middle school - We have several picture books that are good for middle school.
Caught Reading Incentive - I will have these in your mailbox, but students who are caught reading and are participating this week, give them a ticket! Book fair is coming up and I will have so many prizes to share!
If you have anything coming up in your classroom or you know about events I could promote in the library, please let me know!
Shout out from the library!
Thank you to Mrs. Alumbaugh for donating a book repair machine to the library! We have been able to repair so many books already! It is awesome and so fun to use!!!
Thank to Learning Way for letting Student Council 8th grade students come to visit. They loved reading to the classes!
