hour of code Week
December 4-10
Join the movement and introduce your students to computer science with these steps.
Computational thinking helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic, and creativity. And technology is transforming every industry on the planet. Students today should learn how to create technology, not just use it. By starting early, they’ll have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path.
Trying an Hour of Code is a simple and fun way to introduce students to computer science, perhaps for the very first time, and it fits perfectly for both in-class and after-school settings.

CHRISTMAS TIME!!!
I don't know about you, but Christmas time in school holds many fond memories! I can remember making ornaments in class, singing cheesy Christmas songs, watching Christmas movies in the classroom while eating popcorn and drinking Hawaiian punch, wearing cheesy Holiday outfits, and more! These memories happened in elementary, middle, and even high school! Anyway, the library will of course have several activities going on in the library, but I also wanted to share some resources with you all as well.
Resources:
Star Wars, Harry Potter, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Frozen Snowflake patterns (I have printouts in the library as well)
Pop Art 3D Ornaments (See Mrs. Lawell)
The Library has a "Christmas Around the World" Escape Game. (See Mrs. Lawell)
Christmas Agamographs (See Mrs. Lawell)
Christmas Around the World Research project (See Mrs. Lawell)
Reindeer Names: Students stand. Each student decides which of Santa’s reindeer he or she will be (you may want to write the eight names on the board). Students then mill around the room quietly saying their reindeer names. When a student meets another student with the same name, they link arms and continue to search for more reindeer with the same name (now saying their reindeer name in unison). Continue until all reindeer are grouped. End the game by calling the reindeer names in order and having the students in each group sit down as you do. Tip: Don’t use Rudolph – too many of the kids will choose him. Also, students should not be talking except to say their reindeer names.
Snow Ball Fight: Each student gets a piece of paper from the recycle bin and balls it into a “snowball.” Allow students to have a snowball fight for about 20 seconds. Students each must return one snowball to the recycle bin before sitting down. Variation: Have students write one thing they love about the holidays on their papers before balling them up. After the snowball fight, each student must pick up a snowball, un-ball it, and find the person to whom it originally belonged.
