Prior to this school opening in 1863 the children of West Harnham were educated in a wayside cottage that was described as "almost in ruins". The parish applied to the Lords of the Committee of Council for Education for a grant of £120 for the building and a further application for a grant for "Books, Materials and Apparatus". Reverend Pollard cited the need for funds as the parish was very poor and the Farmers were all Dissenters.
Between 1863 and 1869 a number of teachers came and went. Mrs Sarah Chick took over on 1st January 1869 and left in 1895 - with a break of 3 years - presumably as she was giving birth to at least some of her 4 children. From about 1896 to 1931 Alice Barber took over, living in the school with two teachers from East Harnham as boarders.
As numbers rose older children were transferred to East Harnham until in 1928 the school formally became an Infant only school. Numbers declined steadily and in 1931 the school was closed. The property was let by the National Society until it was finally sold in 1951.
Infants were taught in the Parish Hall during the war, and a new Infant School was created using Army Nissan huts in Suffolk Place as the housing estate grew. This was replaced by the current school in 1965 - with the Junior School being built 3 years later.
This property is now partly the offices of All The Sevens Taxi company and partly a private house.
