This building is one of a very few surviving "tin tabernacles". It was bought as a kit and originally constructed in 1866 - cited in the centre of Salisbury. Here it was used as a school for children of the poor and then as a place of worship. By the 1920s this building had become surplus to requirements and made available for sale.
At the same time the residents of Harnham had clubbed together to raise funds to purchase land to extend All Saints' cemetery and provide some sort of memorial building for the fallen in the First World War. The committee were able to purchase the land at a very low price and were then extremely fortunate to purchase the building for £50. A further £350 was spent moving it from Salisbury to its present site and carrying out a small number of modifications.
The Memorial Hall is still regularly used. I suspect the original members of the committee would be surprised to see it still standing and well maintained 100 years after it was reconstructed - and over 150 years since it was originally assembled.
