2. Conduct dimensional tolerances on 1-2 critical features of your design
3. Considering the device’s operating conditions, what types of failure/reliability tests might your product be put through?
If you were to test this device at your house, what tests would you conduct? Why and how?
Scratch tests and stress cycling should be done. My chair will stay indoors and is not likely to be subjected to much water or high temperatures. Thus the only concerns are decreasing strength of the chair over time and scratches forming on the metal surface. At my house I would have the chair weighed down by up to 400 pounds for several hour long intervals each day for stress cycling, and I could test the scratch resistance with an exacto knife or nails. Because stainless steel gets scratched easily, I'd have to add an anti-scratch coating on the metal surfaces of the chair in preparation for the scratch tests.
