What the heck is a spurtle?
Spurtles are traditional Scottish porridge stirring tools. These are my version of the Couthie spurtle. These are great to use in pairs for stir fry, mixing soups & sauces, or sautéing vegetables. You may never use a wooden spoon again. Seriously. It's amazing how well a couple of carefully shaped flat sticks can help with food prep.
I make these from scraps and cutoffs. Typically made from maple, walnut, ash, or cherry.
The spurtles are given multiple treatments of food grade mineral oil, then waxed with locally supplied bees wax. (A neighbor of ours has bees.) This is a standard wooden food utensil finish.
