A recent addition to my wares is a utensil holder. My wife uses antique ceramic pots to hold our spatula, spoons, ladels, etc. I wanted to see what I could make. While making some coasters and coaster holders, I got into the 'waterfall' patterns and wondered if I could make a hexagon waterfall pattern. There were challenges in that, but it was worth it. 'Waterfall' means the wood grain continues around the corners as you can see in the photos. These are about 5" in diameter. Being hexagonal in shape, multiples of these can fit together on the countertop like a honeycomb. I imagine 3 or 4 of various heights would be pretty cool looking, especially if they are holding my Flippers and Spurtles!
Since these are not directly involved with food, I give these holders a few coats of boiled linseed oil for good protection and to allow the natural grain of the wood show through.
I've not decided on making and selling these yet. If you're interested, let me know. We can work something out, I'm sure.
I've also been making these cool little 'Salt Caddies' for our Hardin Hot Salts. See images below. I've been selling those for $65 each which includes a variety of four hot salts. The one shown in the image is made from pecan and cherry. I also have some in pecan and walnut.
