My name is Hannah McGlockton and I am a twenty-year-old student-athlete junior at Georgia Southern University, and I am from Cumming, Georgia. I am majoring in Exercise Science with a Nutrition and Food Science minor with hopes to become a sports dietician for college athletes in the fututre.
Georgia Southern is my second University, where I transferred from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, where I originally went to play college volleyball. Going to school so far away was very hard for me at first, but it helped me become more independent and I was able to find out more about myself. I made the decision to transfer schools after my first semester of freshman year and I decided not to play volleyball anymore and transfer to Georgia Southern as a regular student.
At first, I didn't know what I was going to do as a non-athlete. I found out that Georgia Southern has so much to offer with clubs and organizations. I joined the sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and became a part of the volleyball club team. These organizations introduced me to so many new people that I wouldn't have met otherwise, which made my college experience much more meaningful.
By the end of my sophomore year, I was presented with the opportunity to try out for the Georgia Southern volleyball team. I was very excited but nervous at the same time. I really enjoy the sport, but going to try out for a division-1 team when I haven't been playing that high of a level for a year was stressful. In January of 2020, I went out for the team, and I made it! I am so proud of myself for working hard over the Christmas break and to be a part of the best program that I think that Georgia Southern Athletics has to offer.
